Brunei Has COVID-19 Under Control, the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan holds Eid al-Adha prayer

VOI NEWS On Wednesday, July 21, 2021, the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan held Eid al-Adha prayer for Indonesian citizens in Brunei Darussalam. The prayer started at 07.00 am and was attended by hundreds of people. This year, the Indonesian Embassy held the Eid al-Adha prayer with the consideration that the COVID-19 situation is under control in Brunei.

"Alhamdulillah, this year, the situation is better, so the Indonesian Embassy can hold Eid al-Adha prayer again with Indonesian citizens," said the Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei, Dr. Sujatmiko.

The event was carried out while still implementing the applicable health protocols in Brunei such as limiting the number of people (maximum 1000 people), body temperature check, scanning the QR Code when entering the Indonesian Embassy complex, bringing one’s own prayer mat, and wearing a mask.

Nevertheless, the enthusiasm was clearly visible on the face of the Indonesian citizens who attended. This event is a momentum for gathering and to strengthen the friendship, also as a way to cope homesickness.

Acting as the Imam of Eid prayer, Ust Ajid Osman Hambali, and Khatib, Prof. Anis Malik Thoha, an Indonesian lecturer who teaches at the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA). In his sermon, Prof. Anis invites jamaah to be grateful for the blessings that Allah has given, especially health, and to pray together for Indonesia which is now struggling against the high number of COVID-19 cases

"Even though we live safely in Brunei, don't be lulled and don't forget about our brothers in Indonesia who are experiencing difficulties due to COVID-19," said Dr. Ahmad Yani.

In Brunei Darussalam, 10 Zulhijjah 1442 H fell on July 21, 2021 according to the results of the rukyah held by Hakim Syar'ie, the Sharia Court, the State Justice Office, the Royal Mufti, the Ministry of Religion and the Ministry of Development in several locations in the sultanate country. This is different from most Muslim countries in general which celebrate Eid Al-Adha on July 20, 2021.(KBRI Brunei)
