Covid-19 pandemic has put the world in chaos, in a bid to overcome infection. Moreover, the number of casualties in every country is worrying. Each country has their own way in treating the victims, but generally it is by means of isolation at hospitals, other places appointed by the government, and houses.

Based on a study by an international research organization in Indonesia, there was a positive trend in investment in the health sector and there are many patients going to health centers. Besides, traditional health-based regional health center development, such as herbal spa also contributes to foreign exchange to the world.

In a virtual meeting on the forming of Indonesia Health Tourism Board -IHTB on Wednesday (15/9), the government plans to build health tourism for domestic and international tourists. Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said that the IHTB aims to develop health tourism in the country.

Meanwhile, Health Ministry is simplifying various regulations to support health tourism. While the Tourism and Creative Economy had explained about the health tourism consisting of spa-based health and herbal tourism, herbal and traditional health services, sport event-based health sport tourism, and the Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition –MICE based science tourism.

Actually, health tourism in Asia has been developed for a long time, while in Indonesia it has been developed since regional autonomy applies.

The latest trends of health in Indonesia include traditional health treatment and medicine, as well as innovation from Indonesian plants as alternative medicine.

Hopefully, health tourism will help introduce Indonesian health methods and medicine to the world.
