Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate said Indonesia opened up digital investment opportunities for the European Union.

This was conveyed by Johnny after holding a bilateral meeting with the Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, Vincent Piket, at the Ministry of Communications and Informatics Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (7/6/2022).

"There are several things that we discussed, the first is related to the potential for cooperation in the digital infrastructure sector. Not only infrastructure, but also how to enable investment from the European Union in Indonesia," said Johnny.

The European Union is known to have a strong financial system and a large amount of financing invested in Indonesia, especially in the digital sector. Thus, the meeting also discussed how to collaborate in financing.

"We also discussed related parameters regarding regulatory legislation, how the rules in the European Union are the same as with Indonesia and with Indonesia as well as the rules are in line with the European Union which allows it as an umbrella, increasing economic cooperation in the digital field," he said.

This potential, said Johnny, is also supported by the large Indonesian market with a population of more than 270 million people. So according to him, cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union needs to be improved.

Investment opportunities in the digital sector include ICT infrastructure in the form of optical fiber, microwave links, satellites, to the construction of Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) that provide telecommunication signal services and internet access. (RRI)
