The Governments of Indonesia and Bulgaria are currently discussing the development of cooperation related to cyber research and development of the digital sector, to strengthen information security in preventing cyber attacks, as well as encouraging the growth of the digital economy.

“This morning I was visited by the Bulgarian Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Petar Andonov to discuss the potential for cooperation between the two countries in the digital sector. Including specifically discussing the handling of information security in order to prevent cyber attacks so that law enforcement in Indonesia and Bulgaria can take it seriously," explained Minister of Communications and Information Johnny G. Plate when giving a statement to the media crew after a meeting with the Bulgarian Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia. Indonesia at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Office, Central Jakarta, Monday (27/6/2022).

According to the Minister of Communication and Information, Indonesia and Bulgaria together hope for a digital space that is healthy and beneficial for the community.

"Therefore, the governments of both countries have agreed not to provide space for cyber attacks. Whether it's malware, phishing or any type of cyber attack including unethical hackers. We do not provide adequate space and hope that the public can fill a healthy digital space and be fully filled with useful things," he explained.

As part of the European Union, Bulgaria has also opened a space for cooperation to increase Indonesia's digital economy growth through the development of digital startups in each country.

"We welcome all cooperation both bilaterally and with Bulgaria as a gateway for the European Union. Indonesia itself has very high digital economic growth, and of course this attracts the interest of the business world and the digital sector from Bulgaria," said Minister Johnny.

In fact, Indonesia has also opened a wide space for cooperation while still prioritizing digital space data management so that it can take place well. According to the Minister of Communication and Informatics, this issue is one of the agendas of the G20 Presidency of Indonesia.

"Earlier we also exchanged information on priority agendas related to Indonesia's chairmanship in the Group of Twenty (G20) this year, specifically at the Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) Forum," he said.

Minister Johnny explained that the implementation of the DEWG of the G20 Presidency for Indonesia was the first time and was chaired by Indonesia after the elevation of the Digital Economy Task Force (DETF) of the Italian G20 Presidency, in August 2021. The Minister of Communication and Information stated that the Government of Indonesia had set three agendas or priority issues in the implementation of the DEWG.

“Such as Post Covid-19 Recovery and Connectivity, Digital Skills and Digital Literacy, as well as Cross-Border Data Flow and Data Free-Flow with Trust. We discussed these three issues, especially those that will be discussed soon, namely the DEWG 3rd meeting and Side Session: Workshop on the Identification of Measures in Balancing Interest of Multistakeholders on Cross-Border Data Flow, which will be held in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, on 20 until July 23, to discuss how to cooperate in handling cross-border data flows and how to lay a solid foundation for understanding cross-border data flows," he explained.

According to Minister Johnny, the discussion on these three issues is expected to make the digital space useful and data of high economic value. In addition, it also pays attention to aspects of data sovereignty in relation to geopolitics and geostrategy.

"In the Digital Economy Working Group, Indonesia has established the principles of data management that are put into negotiations such as those relating to Lawfulness, Fairness, Transparency, and as far as possible how to handle them so that there is mutual concern regarding Reciprocity," he said.
