President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed readiness to broker communication between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin in a bid to achieve peace between both parties.

"I have conveyed President Zelenskyy's message to President Putin and also my readiness to broker communication between these leaders," President Jokowi stated at a press conference with President Putin at the Kremlin Palace, Moscow, Russia, Thursday local time, as informed by the Presidential Secretariat Press Bureau.

He later remarked that despite the current situation still being very difficult, it was important to prioritize peaceful settlement and make space for dialogue as a common goal.

During the meeting of the two leaders, Jokowi also emphasized that the issue of peace and humanity had always been a priority for Indonesia's foreign policy. The 1945 Constitution of Indonesia mandates that the country always strives to contribute to the creation of world peace.

"In this context, I made visits to Kyiv and Moscow," he stated.

President Jokowi became the first Asian leader to visit Ukraine and Russia to meet the leaders of the two countries after the military invasion took place in February 2022.

Prior to meeting Putin at the Kremlin, Jokowi met Zelenskyy at the Maryinsky Palace, Kyiv, Ukraine, on Wednesday, June 29, and attended a series of meetings with world leaders at the G7 Summit in Germany on June 26-28, 2022.

Regarding the visit to Ukraine and Russia, Jokowi said his mission aims to bring peace with good intentions.

Jokowi brought to the attention of Zelenskyy and Putin the importance of re-activating the food supply chain since it involves the lives of hundreds of millions of people.

"I invite all world leaders to work together to revive the spirit of multilateralism, the spirit of peace, and the spirit of cooperation. Only with that spirit can peace be achieved," Jokowi noted in a joint press statement with Putin.  (Antaranews)
