Communication Minister Opens G20 Digital Economy Working Group Meeting

Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate, opened the third meeting of the digital economy working group or the 3rd Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) meeting which is part of the G20 Presidency series, in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, Wednesday (20/7/2022). ).

"It is an honor for me to be able to welcome you all today to the third digital economy working group in Labuan Bajo, west of Flores Island," said Johnny.

The meeting, which was held on 20-22 July 2022, was attended by 20 delegates from G20 countries. 17 delegates attended physically and 3 others attended virtually.

This meeting discussed cooperation in handling cross-border data flows and a strong foundation for understanding cross-border data flows.

"The digital economy working group meeting so far has been very productive. I really appreciate all the efforts we have received to be here physically today and those who joined us," Johnny said, Wednesday (20/7/2022).

The G20 DEWG is a digital economy working group meeting that was first held at the G20 Indonesia Presidency this year, after the elevation of the Digital Economy Task Force (DETF) at the Italian G20 Presidency, August 2021.

The Indonesian government has set three agendas or priority issues in the implementation of DEWG, namely Post Covid-19 Recovery and Connectivity, Digital Skills and Digital Literacy, and Cross-Border Data Flow and Data Free-Flow with Trust.

These three issues are expected to encourage useful digital space and economically valuable data. In addition, it also pays attention to aspects of data sovereignty in relation to geopolitics and geostrategy. (RRI)
