The Ministry of Trade is targeting transactions of up to US$10 billion at the 37th Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) this year.

The expo will be held offline from October 19 to 23, 2022, at ICE BSD, Tangerang, and online from October 19–December 19.

"If last year's TEI recorded transactions of US$6.06 billion, then we are optimistic that this year, God willing, it can reach US$10 billion," Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said while unveiling the expo in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The Minister of Trade said that promotional activities, trade missions, exhibitions, and business meetings, which currently can only be conducted on a limited basis, will be included in the integrated promotional event.

Themed “Strengthening the Global Market for Stronger Recovery,” the 37th TEI could be a turning point for the revival of the Indonesian and global economy post-pandemic.

The Trade Minister said that the TEI will offer buyers and visitors the convenience and comfort of being able to see the quality products on display firsthand.

Through digital platforms, interactive activities between sellers and buyers can also run more efficiently and effectively.

Then, as part of an effort to make Indonesia a center for halal products and world Muslim fashion, the Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week will be held from October 20–22, as part of the 37th TEI activities series.

"We will also work with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and associations to make the event a success," Hasan said.

Meanwhile, Director General of National Export Development Didi Sumedi said that the 36th TEI, which was carried out with a digital concept, saw participation from 8,220 buyers and 32,030 visitors from abroad.

"The event recorded a transaction achievement of US$6.06 billion," Sumedi noted.

Therefore, taking advantage of the momentum of the national economic recovery, the Ministry of Trade is optimistic that this year's TEI will be attended by more participants--visitors and buyers, he added.

"Therefore, we are targeting this year's TEI to be able to bring in 1 thousand participants, 66 thousand foreign online and offline visitors, with trade transactions of US$10 billion, or up 65 percent from last year's achievement," Sumedi said.

The Ministry of Trade has carried out a series of activities to promote the event and participant selections, both offline and online, by involving the relevant ministries and institutions, offices in charge of trade, and business associations.

"We are also cooperating with Indonesian representatives abroad to invite importers in their respective countries to make TEI a success this year," Sumedi said.  (Antaranews)
