The Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) has extended the validity period of passports to 10 years from the original five years. This is stated in Permenkumham Number 18/2022 concerning Ordinary Passports and Certificates as Passports.

"This Ministerial Regulation comes into force on the date of promulgation. It will be promulgated in Jakarta on September 29, 2022," such as the a quo regulation signed by Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly on September 19, 2022, quoted by RRI.co.id, Friday (30/9/2022).

An ordinary passport with a maximum validity period of 10 years is only given to Indonesian citizens (WNI). They are 17 years old or married.

Meanwhile, the validity period of ordinary passports issued for children with dual nationality must not exceed the child's age limit. Especially when they have been able to determine their choice of citizenship.

"The age limit for the child as referred to in paragraph (3) is determined. This is in accordance with the provisions of the legislation," reads Article 2A paragraph 4

For Indonesian citizens who are domiciled or in the territory of Indonesia, a passport application can be submitted to the Minister or Immigration Officer. Then, they must fill out a data application and attach documents for completeness of requirements.

The requirements for obtaining a passport are as follows:

a. A valid identity card;

d. Indonesian citizenship letter for foreigners who obtain Indonesian citizenship through citizenship. Or submit a statement to choose citizenship in accordance with the provisions of the legislation;

e. Letter of stipulation for change of name from the authorized official for those who have changed their name; and

f. Old ordinary passport for those who already have a regular passport.

Meanwhile, children with dual citizenship must attach:

a. The electronic identity card of the father or mother of an Indonesian citizen;

b. Family card;

c. Marriage certificate or parent's marriage book;

d. Birth certificate;

e. Immigration residence permit of foreign father or mother;

h. A statement from both parents stating that they are responsible for the use of the RI travel documents.

"This Ministerial Regulation comes into force on the date of promulgation. Promulgated in Jakarta on September 29, 2022," as stated in the a quo regulation signed by the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H. Laoly. (RRI)
