The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia provides a forum for civil society and media practitioners to discuss democracy through the 5th Bali Civil Society and Media Forum (BCSMF). The BCSMF international forum is part of the Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) series and has been officially opened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Director General of Information and Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Teuku Faizasyah at the opening of the 5th Bali Civil Society Media Forum in Bali Wednesday (06/12) which was monitored virtually highlighted the important role of the media and civil society, particularly amid the global situation in facing various challenges.

“ Today we continue to face challenges, affecting the very foundations of democracy and Humanity. we face existential threats caused by main disasters such as from war to global catastrophe due to climate change,” Faizasyah pointed out.

Moreover, Teuku Faizasyah further conveyed there is a need to strengthen the fundamental values of democracy, pluralism, and inclusiveness. He noted through the democratic process, all democratic countries need to strengthen, respect human rights, and fight against intolerance and discrimination. They must also promote the principle of inclusiveness, legitimacy, relevance, and democracy.

“There is a need to strengthen democratic leadership through dialogue and share its responsibility. Surely each country has its own national interest and needs. Therefore there is always the potential for conflicting interests among nations. Hence, we need to promote a democratic leadership process that can bring and align divergence of interest while ensuring an inclusive process. We also share similar responsibilities to promote more democratic global governance,” Faizasyah noted.
Furthermore, Teuku Faizasyah conveyed that in the midst of global change, there is an urgent need to move onward with the effort to promote democratic values and process// RRIVOI/ AF.
