Indonesia will support the realization of the decent employment program carried out by the government of Palestine through bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah said. 

"The cooperation between Indonesia and Palestine is a momentum to explore the (collaboration) potentials in the employment sector," she remarked in a press release issued on Wednesday.

She made the statement after receiving a visit from the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Zuhair Al-Shun, at the Manpower Ministry’s headquarters here on Wednesday.

The Indonesian minister said that the meeting was expected to provide detailed information regarding Indonesia's role in the “Partners Meeting to Support the Implementation of the Palestinian National Employment Strategy,” which will take place on February 23, 2023, in Amman, Jordan.

"(The implementation of the) ‘Partners Meeting to Support the Implementation of the Palestinian National Employment Strategy’ aims to support the creation of decent jobs in Palestine and provide inputs for the implementation of the Palestinian National Employment Strategy 2021–2025,” she informed.

She said that there are three key strategies of the Palestinian national employment program, which has been developed by a number of Palestinian ministries with technical support from the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The strategies include strengthening the governance of active labor market programs; aligning skills development and education programs with the needs of the labor market; as well as improving the resilience of the private sector to create decent job opportunities, especially for youth and women.

To support those strategies, the government of Indonesia wants to collaborate in manpower placement, internship programs, providing technical assistance for organizing vocational training, as well as human resource capacity building, Fauziyah stated

"I believe, with the support of Ambassador Zuhair Al-Shun, cooperation between Indonesia and Palestine, especially in the manpower sector, can be well developed," she added.

Earlier, when Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Ibrahim Shtayyeh paid a visit to Indonesia on October 24, 2022, President Joko Widodo affirmed that the Indonesian government will continue to provide humanitarian and capacity-building assistance to Palestine.

“Indonesia and Palestine are close friends. Palestine was one of the first countries to recognize Indonesia's independence,” he said. (antaranews)
