VOInews, Jakarta: Director of Information and Media of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Hartyo Harkomoyo said that currently world power has shifted not only from military strength but from soft power such as information. According to him, the wealth of information will give him the power to influence world opinion.

"I think the role of the media is very vital, very central, in spreading one opinion and also influencing public views. Therefore, if we see who is currently playing a role in international struggles, of course it is the media," he said in the Diplomatic Forum with the theme Soft Power Diplomacy and Utilization of New Media Technology, which was broadcast on Friday (24/3) on Voice of Indonesia RRI.

According to him, the media plays an important role in enlightening the public about various issues. Therefore, according to him, the media must be able to educate the public by presenting correct information.

"What the media must be able to do is how to provide information, convey information to the public, educate and educate and also provide information that is valid, correct, that brings goodness," he said.

Meanwhile, Director of Technology and New Media of the Republic of Indonesia Public Radio Broadcasting Institute (LPP RRI) Muhammad Sujai, on the same occasion, stated RRI's readiness to continue disseminating information to the public in the current era of global progress.

He said RRI has various platforms needed to be able to reach people in various directions, nationally and internationally.

"Our news portal is very qualified with content from all work units in Indonesia. We also have a mobile application that can be accessed via the internet anywhere. We also have radio streaming," he said.

Apart from that, according to him, RRI also still has short wave technology that allows RRI to reach listeners abroad and in border areas.

"So indeed we are very rich and this can be enjoyed by all viewers, not only in Indonesia but also the global community. It has been proven that we have analytical tracking from every digital media that we have, many of our relatives are accessing it from abroad, so we are ready," he said.

Head of Voice of Indonesia RRI Soleman Yusuf, on the other hand, added that as an RRI foreign broadcast station, Voice of Indonesia has the opportunity to encourage soft power diplomacy, not only domestically but also abroad.

"There are nine languages served by the RRI Voice of Indonesia, Mandarin, Japanese, Arabic, French, English, Spanish, Indonesian, Dutch and German, which are delivered to the world. We have two short waves, streaming and applications," he said.

According to him, the entire content of RRI's Voice of Indonesia broadcast is part of soft power diplomacy in an effort to strengthen the positive image of the Indonesian nation abroad.

"All of these things are part of soft diplomacy, including us telling about Indonesian culture in Voice of Indonesia. We also have several special programs to talk about how to improve the positive image of the Indonesian nation in the eyes of the world," he added.

He also encouraged synergy between Voice of Indonesia RRI and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to collaborate to ensure the strengthening of second layer diplomacy, through programs and networks owned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Indonesian representatives abroad. (VOI/Andy)
