VOINews, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Rahmat Bagja is concerned about the exploitation of minors in the 2024 elections. Therefore, he reminded not to involve children in political campaigns.

"Those who involve children in the campaign can be charged with Law number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection. Criminal action is the last legal remedy for involving children in election activities," Bagja said in his statement, Wednesday (5/24/2023).

Not wanting to be missed, Bawaslu also collaborated with the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) to protect children at this five-year democratic party. Bagja admitted that Bawaslu-KPAI agreed to strongly reject the involvement of children in political campaigns.

"Bawaslu and KPAI agreed to work together to prevent children's involvement in election activities. Involving children in the 2024 elections has an unfavorable effect," said Bagja, emphasizing.

He explained Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning Elections article 16 and article 280 of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections expressly prohibits involving children. In addition, it also involves people who do not have the right to vote.

Therefore, Bawaslu massively conducts socialization to all political parties participating in the 2024 Election and the community. "Preventing this, not to involve children in election activities," said Bagja.

Meanwhile, KPAI Chairperson Ai Maryati Solihah said that the collaborative role of Bawaslu and KPAI would later try to prevent, ward off. Even handle and overcome possible cases of child abuse in politics in 2024.

"Things that do occur dynamics that can occur at any time from a political contestation. This is what we have to do together," said Ai. (RRI)
