VOINews, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia collaborated with the Nusantara Student Journalists Association (IJPN) to socialize millennial participation in the 2024 General Election in Jayapura, Wednesday (24/05/2023).

Agus Tri Wuyono said this socialization targets the younger generation or first-time voters because their percentage in the upcoming election is so large, as well as millennials are the nation's next generation.

"Actually, when talking about first-time voters, it is not only young people, there are also parents who are also first-time voters because they have never voted, but this socialization is targeted at young people," he said, as quoted by Antara News Agency, Thursday (25/05/2023).

Wuyono hopes that the Ikatan Jurnalis Pelajar Nusantara (IJPN) community will continue to assist the local government in increasing youth participation in the 2024 elections.

Meanwhile, IJPN Chairman Roberthus Yewen said the socialization activity was to improve the political literacy of millennials consisting of students, college students and young people.

"So that when welcoming the elections later they can position themselves as smart young people in order to realize peaceful, safe and successful elections," he said.

According to Yewen, the youth is the baton holder of the nation, which means that the younger generation also supports, encourages and also actively participates in helping election organizers in realizing peaceful, clean and honest elections.

"Thus, the resulting leaders are truly from the people, by the people and serve the people," he said.

He said the socialization targeting students and college students was because in the current era of technological advances students or students are vulnerable to untrue information or hoaxes.

"Therefore, this activity is carried out in order to increase the awareness of students, youth and students so that in the future they can participate in the success of the 2024 elections," he said again. (VOI/Agus)
