VOINews, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD emphasized that synergy and neutrality are important aspects that must be carried out by the TNI and Polri. Especially in carrying out its role ahead of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

"Mainly synergy is needed, unity, not separation. Synergy means complementing each other, not independently," Mahfud said at a national coordination meeting related to the 2024 Election in Jakarta, Monday (29/5/2023).

The national coordination meeting was also attended by TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono and Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. The theme was "Government Synergy in Maintaining Political Stability and Security for the Success of the 2024 Elections".

Mahfud reminded the TNI and Polri to work hard together by not ignoring synergy. Because, according to him, if they ignore synergy, it is feared that their work in securing the 2024 elections will be ineffective.

He emphasized that the synergy aspect does not only stop between the TNI-Polri, but also with other government institutions that have an interest in maintaining the 2024 elections democratically. "Of course, it will even synergize with the KPU, with the government as well," he said, adding.

He said the second aspect that must be carried by the TNI-Polri towards the 2024 elections is neutrality. "This neutrality will determine the quality of our democracy," he said.

The quality of democracy, Mahfud continued, is reflected through, among others, people exercising their right to vote freely. In addition, the voting and counting procedures are carried out correctly and can be accounted for. (RRI)
