VOINews, Jakarta - Indonesia as a democratic country will hold executive and legislative elections in February 2024.

Currently, the stages for elections abroad have been running, namely the formation of the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN), and voter registration. The General Elections Commission (KPU) projects that there will be nearly two million overseas voters in the 2024 elections.

However, there is a possibility that this number has the potential to increase referring to the Data on Potential Electoral Voters (DP4) that has been submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the KPU.

This number is not much different from the 2019 elections, which amounted to 2,058,191. Of this number, about a quarter of overseas voters are registered in the Malaysian territory including Kuching, and Sarawak.

According to the Head of Voice of Indonesia Soleman Yusuf, voters abroad certainly need to know and understand the important value of organizing elections.

For this reason, through the Smart Voting Movement Workshop held in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, Voice of Indonesia will play its role as mainstream media to educate voters about the importance of elections.

"The Smart Voting Movement Workshop seeks to provide education and literacy to Indonesian people abroad, especially first-time voters about the stages of the 2024 Election," said Soleman.

He also said that the active participation of overseas voters in choosing the nation's leaders in the election on February 14, 2024, is very important in determining the future of the nation and state.

"Choosing our nation's leaders determines the sustainability of our future," he added.

He added that this activity is Voice of Indonesia's commitment in guarding voters to become good Indonesian citizens (WNI) by providing correct, educational, and intellectual information related to the 2024 elections.

"In order for our citizens to become smart voters, they must understand the rules, the process, and understand what kind of leader candidates they want to choose. Well, it is the duty of LPP RRI Voice of Indonesia to present the right information," said Soleman.

The talk show, SARASEHAN GERAKAN CERDAS MEMILIH held at the Consulate General Hall in Kuching, Sarawak, on Monday, May 22, 2024, raised the theme of the Smart Voting Movement, "Towards Smart Voters".

This theme was discussed by speakers; Indonesian Consul General Kuching R. Sigit Witjaksono, Chairman of PPLN Kuching Lucky Fathria J., Chairman of Panwaslu Kuching Muhamad Sophian, and Representative of the Indonesian Community in Kuching Nurzen.

In addition, there were also members of the LPP RRI Board of Trustees Mohamad Kusnaeni, Head of Voice of Indonesia Station Soleman Yusuf, as well as approximately 100 workshop participants representing PPI, PMI, and the Indonesian Community in Kuching. (VOI/DP)
