The discourse rolled amidst the planned visit of Donald Trump's envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff to Gaza. It is as reported by American media on Saturday (18/1/2025).
"The Indonesian government has never received any information regarding this," said a spokesperson of the ministry, Rolliansyah Soemirat on Monday (20/1/2025), as reported by Antara news agency.
In the report, it was stated that Witkoff planned to visit Gaza to ensure the ceasefire implementation. It was said by an official involved in the US leadership transition.
Trump and his team want to ensure the enforcement of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement and discussions on the next phase. Meanwhile, they also pay attention to the importance of a long-term solution to end the conflict in Gaza.
One of the problems currently being faced is related to the two million Palestinians in Gaza. Their fate and place of residence are considered to need to be considered while the reconstruction of Gaza is underway.
"Indonesia, for instance, is among the locations under discussion for where some of them (Gaza residents) could go," said an NBC News report, quoting the official.
However, Trump's transition team acknowledged that the discourse was very controversial for both Palestinians and Arab society in general. Many believe that relocation to another place would provide Israel with an excuse to expel Gazans from their homeland.
Regarding support for recovery in Gaza, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Indonesia is always actively helping the Palestinian people in various ways. However, these ways seemingly do not include accepting the relocation of Palestinian refugees.
According to the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, Friday (17/1/2025), Indonesia is ready to support Gaza reconstruction and increase the humanitarian aid delivery. He also said the country is also ready to send peacekeeping troops to Palestine, if requested by the United Nations (UN).
