Indonesia and Cambodia encourage cooperation to handle negative campaigns against palm oil commodities

Indonesia keeps fighting against negative campaigns of palm oil commodities and its derivatives; one of which is through a representative approach to each accredited country.  Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia, Sudirman Haseng visited the State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, Eang Sophalleth to discuss the issue of oil palm and the economic sustainability of farmers on Friday (15/1).

Besides, Ambassador Sudirman also takes advantages of the meeting to gain support and an active role of Cambodia at the ASEAN-EU Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting which will discuss issues related to vegetable oil, including palm oil at the end of January 2021. He also affirmed that the issues to be discussed at the JWG is very important, particularly for ASEAN, which becomes the largest exporter region of palm oil commodities. Moreover, the issues of palm oil become a systemic negative campaign target done by interested parties.

Meanwhile, State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, Eang Sophalleth pointed out the important issues discussed in relation to encouraging the implementation of SDGs and a sustainable economy, as well as looking at the opportunities and challenges in vegetable oil production. The meeting also discussed cooperation plans at the ecotourism sector as a potential new destination to educate domestic and international students and tourists related to the advantages, uses and benefits of palm oil, as well as providing a broader understanding in giving various perspectives to combat against negative campaigns to palm oil commodities.
