Jakarta (voinews): The Denpasar City Government, Bali, will ban electric bicycles in the Sanur Beach pedestrian area starting April 1, 2023, and move the allowed area to Danau Tamblingan Street.

"Sanur Beach is a special recreation attraction for  community, both local and foreign tourists," Head of the Denpasar City Tourism Office Dezire Mulyani said in a socialization session regarding the ban regulation on Saturday.

She said the ban is to maintain the safety and comfort of Sanur as the iconic tourism area in Denpasar City.

The Mayoral Regulation No. 51/2022 is a guideline for the community, visitors, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and all stakeholders in the Sanur Beach Area, she said.

In the information session, representatives of the Denpasar city administration and customary villages conveyed the ban to e-bike and e-motorcycle rental service providers.

The information session was attended by the Intaran and Sanur customary villages, pecalang (traditional security officers)the city's public order security agency (Satpol PP), and the tourism office.

"Starting April 1, electric motorcycles will no longer be allowed to be operated in the Sanur Beach pedestrian area. Pedestrians will be devoted to pedestrians and conventional bicycles," Mulyani said.

The use of electric bikes will be directed to Danau Tamblingan Street and its surrounding, which are part of the Sanur tourism zone.

Chief of Intaran Village AA Alit Kencana said the ban is needed to keep the Sanur area safe, comfortable, and tourist-friendly.

Kencana said e-motorcycles in the Sanur Beach area had disturbed many tourists, especially those who stayed in the nearby accommodations.

In addition, some pedestrians also complained about riders who sped their e-bikes.

"This is a tourist area, where guests want to relax and enjoy the Sanur area, but instead, they are honked at by e-bike users. Some complained about the speed," he said, adding that there were some occurrences of e-bike accidents.

"Let's deal with this together wisely. Don't let this change the impression of Sanur," he said. (antaranews)

"The sports branches that are competed are new to us, but they will be very interesting and can become new popular sports in Indonesia, because beach sports has a fun sport concept," Oktohari said here on Sunday.

The 2023 AWBG in Bali will be held on August 5-12 and feature 14 sports, including the 5 km open water swimming, beach water polo, beach soccer, beach handball, individual karate kata, kite foil, beach tennis, aquathlon, beach volleyball 4x4, beach wrestling, basketball 3x3, AirBadminton, sprint rowing, and surfing.

"We know how much interest Indonesians have in badminton. Well, now there is a similar one called the AirBadminton," he mentioned.

He explained, AirBadminton is played outdoors and requires three players in each team.

"This can become a new favorite sport among the younger generation. Of course, the appearance of our athletes as local heroes are expected to increase public interest in trying this new sport," he said.

In addition to AirBadminton, he said, there is another huge potential in beach sports such as surfing, where Indonesia has a champion named Rio Waida.

"We see how the popularity of surfing has increased after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. We have the champion, originally from Bali, Rio Waida, who can definitely enliven the popularity of this sport," Oktohari said.

At least 1,500 athletes from more than 130 countries are expected to participate in the 2nd AWBG, after undergoing a rigorous qualification process until July 2023.

Jakarta (voinews): Police officers helped handle the Kristin Surabaya tanker fire incident in the waters of Ampenan, Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Sunday.

Mataram City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Mustofa said here on Sunday, some water and air police personnel with boats were dispatched to help handle the incident.

"In this case, the NTB Water and Air Police deployed three units of Baladewa 8002 ships owned by the National Police Headquarters and two units of type C ships," Mustofa said.

In addition, the NTB Police deployed a medical team to assist the crew members and captain of the tanker.

"All crew members and the captain who survived have been taken to Pertamina's Ampenan Depot. The police medical team conducted health checks on them. They only suffered minor injuries," he said.

There were 14 surviving crew members including the captain who survived the tanker fire incident.

Meanwhile, there were three crew who could not be evacuated, Mustofa said.

He explained the evacuation of the surviving crew was helped by fishermen. Some crew saved themselves by using lifeboats.

"The whereabouts of the three crew members are still unknown," he added.

The tanker, belonging to a private freight service company, caught on fire on Sunday at 2:45 p.m. local time.

The tanker was carrying 5,900 kiloliters of Pertalite fuel, to unload 2,700 kiloliters of the fuel at Pertamina's Ampenan Depot.

While the tanker was waiting on the Ampenan waters, an explosion occurred. At that time, three crew members were heading to the front of the ship to lower the anchor.

According to witnesses at the Ampenan coast, an explosion was heard from the ship, followed by a blaze with thick smoke.

The explosion burned the front part of the tanker.

Meanwhile, state-owned commercial and trading sub-holding PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional in Jatimbalinus coordinated with related parties to carry out an integrated fire extinguishing effort for the tanker.

"We coordinate with state-run port operator Pelindo, the harbormaster's office, and other parties to extinguish the ship fire," a corporate official said. (antaranews)

Jakarta (voinews): Indonesia's National Football Association (PSSI) informed that FIFA has cancelled U-20 World Cup Drawing in Bali, although the global football federation has yet to send an official letter to PSSI about it.

Member of PSSI Executive Committee Arya Sinulingga disclosed the information during a press conference in Gelora Bung Karno Stadium here on Saturday.

He mentioned that initially, the drawing event for U-20 World Cup was scheduled to take place in Bali on March 31. However, the Bali Provincial Government has expressed its refusal of welcoming Israel's national team, which led to that part of event being cancelled.

"Indeed, we have yet to receive the official letter from FIFA. But the message is clear: it is cancelled. We understand (that such that decision) is due to the refusal from Bali Governor, Bali Government, regarding the presence of Israeli team. So by itself, the drawing cannot be done without participation of one contesting team," he elaborated.

Sinulingga mentioned that the association understood that it is hard to separate politics from sport. Hence, the head of PSSI, Erick Thohir, will work with Foreign Affairs Minister to handle the aspects of diplomacy and foreign affairs as well as with the Youth and Sports Ministry as the host of the U-20 World Cup, he pointed out.

He also said that Thohir would report the latest situation to President Joko Widodo, so they can work to resolve the issues. Thohir also expected to communicate with FIFA to seek for the best solution, Sinulingga mentioned.

He affirmed that PSSI has talked to the Bali administration about the decision. However, PSSI respects the province's decision.

"We, PSSI, act as the host. First, (Bali) has refused the presence (of Israeli team), and then the drawing (got cancelled), so it ends up being difficult for us, we can no longer ask for it to be hosted there," he stated.

This issue could put Indonesia at risk of being sanctioned by FIFA, he said. Because Indonesia has already offered itself to host the competition, thus it is committed to bearing all the consequences that come with it, Sinulingga explained.

He stressed that if Indonesia fails to meet the expectations, then it has already violated the agreements which have been made.

"In 2018, we were banned too. We experienced that, so it is not something new, that we had already gone through it. And we do not want it to recur to us," he added.

Bali is one of the locations set for the U-20 World Cup. Other locations include Jakarta, Bandung, Solo, Surabaya, and Palembang. (antaranews)
