State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.
The Industry Ministry will support certification for the local content level (TKDN) of pharmaceutical products and healthcare equipment to bolster the national industry's self-reliance and global competitiveness.
"Certification is crucial since currently, we have 10 thousand pharmaceutical products that would require certification demonstrating the local content of the products," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita noted in a statement here on Saturday.
The minister suggested state budget allocation for the certification.
"This is especially since the pharmaceutical and healthcare equipment industry had been included in the additional list of priority sectors in the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap," he pointed out.
The minister opined that Indonesia's self-reliance in the pharmaceutical and healthcare equipment industry was deemed crucial, especially under the health emergency scenario.
The industry witnessed a sharp spike in demand during the COVID-19 pandemic, while other sectors were severely impacted.
The Industry Ministry’s data indicated a positive growth of 5.59 percent in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and traditional medicine industry in the first quarter of 2020.
The chemical and pharmaceutical industry contributed significantly to the country's investment, with Rp9.83 trillion of investment during the period.
Kartasasmita called for encouraging the pharmaceutical and healthcare equipment industry to meet the domestic demand. The industry's self-reliance is expected to help the country reduce imports to 35 percent by the end of 2022.
"Innovation and the implementation of industry 4.0 in the pharmaceutical and healthcare equipment industry would boost productivity," he affirmed.
Industry Minister’s Regulation No. 16 of 2020 stipulates that the local content level of pharmaceutical products will employ the process-based method rather than the cost-based system.
The process-based method will take into account the research and development conducted by the industry and maintain the confidentiality of the formula, he added. (ANTARA)
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that batik exports increased amid the COVID-19 pandemic to $21.54 million in January - July 2020 compared to the same period last year $17.99 million with the main market to Japan, the United States, and Europe.
"This phenomenon is quite unique because the export market increases during the COVID-19 pandemic," the Minister of Industry said while attending the inauguration of the 2020 National Batik Day in Jakarta, Friday.
The Minister of Industry said that efforts to open new markets at the global level are expected to help revive the performance of the Indonesian batik industry and to further introduce Indonesian batik.
He said he seeing the existing conditions apart from being a cultural heritage, batik is also an important industrial commodity.
This industry is considered to have great leverage in creating added value, trade, the amount of investment, the impact on other industries, and the speed of market penetration.
"The Ministry of Industry continues to strive to preserve and encourage the development of the national batik industry to make it more globally competitive," Agus said.
According to data from the Ministry of Industry, the batik industry has reached 47,000 units and is spread across 101 centers and employs over 200,000 people.
Agus added that the batik industry has also played a major role in contributing to the country's foreign exchange. (Antaranews)
Vice President Ma'ruf Amin asked the Indonesian Police to guarantee the security of the 2020 regional election (Pilkada) and violations of the COVID-19 health protocol must go hand in hand.
When delivering material at the 29th National Police for Regular Education School of Staff and Leadership Seminar 2020 virtually from the vice president's official residence in Jakarta, Friday, Ma'ruf Amin said that the COVID-19 pandemic presents its own challenges for the Police to carry out security duties.
"On the one hand, we need to concentrate on handling COVID-19 and it must ensure security against the ongoing election process. For that, it is necessary to expect and prepare well," Ma'ruf Amin said in Jakarta, Friday.
In normal situations, we cannot doubt the ability of the National Police in overseeing the implementation of a democratic party, both in the 2019 Presidential Election and the 2018 Simultaneous Pilkada, he said.
However, a pandemic situation requires extra work for the police in carrying out their duties. Ma'ruf also asked the National Police to maintain neutrality as a state apparatus, especially when handling potential or cases of violations during the 2020 simultaneous regional elections.
"The National Police continues to maintain neutrality as a state apparatus regarding potential violations such as hoaxes and black campaigns, money politics, mass mobilization and activities that have the potential to violate health protocols during the pandemic," he said.
The Vice President also expressed his appreciation to the leadership and all levels of the National Police for maintaining and reminding the public to comply with health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic forces all communities to adjust to a new order that adheres to health protocols, to produce optimal performance. Implementing the new order requires guarding on all fronts, so that the entire community obeys, said Ma'ruf.
"Because as long as preventive vaccines and curative drugs are not yet available, adherence to implementing health protocols is the only most effective way (to) prevent transmission of the COVID-19 virus," he said. (Antaranews)
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the government will reform its policy through the Omnibus Law to attract more investment to Indonesia.
"We are pushing for the ratification of the Omnibus Law and supporting businesses and communities affected by Covid-19," he said in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday.
Luhut conveyed this when he was the Speaker of the National Webinar on Investment in Islamic Countries in Indonesia in Jakarta, Thursday.
According to Luhut, the Covid-19 pandemic that has hit Indonesia since last March has not only caused death but also had a negative impact on the economic sector. Therefore, investment is one of the needed boosters for economic growth.
"The pandemic will cause people's purchasing power to decline, thus affecting consumption. Therefore, it needs a boost from government spending and additional investment," he said.
Apart from focusing on policy reforms to invite investment, another strategy of the government is to focus on developing the infrastructure sector.
The former Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security said that apart from China, as well as western countries, investment from Islamic countries from Arab and African countries in Indonesia is also quite significant.
Indonesia has even signed a memorandum of understanding of US $22.8 billion with the United Arab Emirates on January 12, 2020.
Details of the cooperation include sustainable energy development, sharing a vision of green growth to transform energy security into sustainable energy, and support value genuine Islam in encouraging tolerance.
"Foreign investment companies (PMA) from Islamic countries in 2019 were dominated by the United Arab Emirates at 69.7 percent," Luhut said.
Indonesia is also collaborating with the United Arab Emirates company, namely G42, to produce the COVID-19 vaccine.
"They UAE are committed to providing 10 million doses for Indonesia and undertaking broader cooperation for pharmaceutical products in the markets of the Middle East, Africa, and several other countries," added Luhut.
In the same webinar, the Indonesian Ambassador to Abu Dhabi Husin Bagis revealed the opportunities for Islamic countries to invest in Indonesia.
According to him, there are 57 countries that are predominantly Muslim but only a few rich Muslim countries. Husin also gave an example of Saudi Arabia which can produce 12 million barrels of oil, Abu Dhabi's 14 million barrels.
"A lot of energy reserves, but the population is small, the money is a lot. Where is the money going? Yes, investment," said Husin.
Husin said because they are rich, these countries only want to invest in countries with easy bureaucracy. Investments in Indonesia have become less attractive to them because of the complexity of the bureaucracy.
"Abu Dhabi's Sovereign Wealth Fund is huge, but what makes them less interested in investing in Indonesia is because we don't have any projects that can offer clean deals," he explained.
This, he added, caused the project to end up stalled due to being stuck in the administrative process. (Antaranews)
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi held a virtual meeting with the Palestinian Foreign Minister on Tuesday, including discussing the development of the country's situation, which became increasingly alarming after several Arab countries normalized relations with Israel.
"The future of Palestine is becoming increasingly difficult and full of challenges. Without solid international support, they fear that Palestinian political rights will be neglected," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said in an online media briefing, on Wednesday.
Many consider the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain's decision to reopen diplomatic relations with Israel is to weaken the Palestinian struggle for independence.
Indonesia understands this move as the intention of the UAE and Bahrain to provide space for negotiations and change approaches to resolve the prolonged conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Indonesia consistently supported Palestinian independence based on a two-state solution and condemns all forms of occupation, human rights violations, and international law committed by Israel.
"I emphasize that Indonesia will continue to provide support for Palestinian cause," Retno emphasized.
Amid the worsening Palestinian situation, Foreign Minister Riad Maliki reported one positive thing, namely the unity between Hamas and Fatah, the two largest Palestinian factions with a history of civil war.
"The Palestinian Foreign Minister explained that the two factions are in talks that will lead to implementing the Palestinian elections," Retno said.
The two main Palestinian factions have agreed to hold their first elections in nearly 15 years. The vote will be scheduled for six months under an agreement agreed by Fatah, Palestinian Authority (PA) leader Mahmoud Abbas, and Hamas political chief Ismail Haniya.
Saleh al-Arouri, a top Hamas official, said they reached the agreement during a meeting held in Turkey.
"This time we have reached a real consensus. The divisions have undermined our national goals and we are working to end them," he told the AFP news agency from Istanbul.
The last Palestinian parliamentary elections were held in 2006 when Hamas unexpectedly won. After the 2006 vote, Hamas and Fatah formed a unity government but soon collapsed and bloody clashes erupted in the Gaza Strip between the two factions the following year.
Hamas has since ruled Gaza, while Fatah runs the PA, which is based in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah. Various reconciliation efforts, including a prisoner swap agreement in 2012 and a short-lived unity government two years later, have failed to close the rift between the two sides. (Antaranews)
Deputy South Korean Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Kim Gunn visited Indonesia on Monday to discuss several issues including COVID-19 and bilateral cooperation.
Amid travel restrictions in some or almost all countries, Indonesia and Korea have implemented travel corridor arrangements for important business visits and official visits since 17 August 2020.
"During this courtesy visit, South Korea expressed its appreciation for Indonesia's consistency in prioritizing multilateralism, including in terms of vaccine cooperation," Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said in an online media briefing, Wednesday.
Retno and Gunn also discussed the ongoing cooperation between the two countries, even amid a pandemic. In the health sector, for example, since the beginning, South Korea has been an important partner of Indonesia in providing medical supplies such as personal protective equipment (PPE), which is needed in handling COVID-19.
"Vaccine companies in Indonesia and South Korea are developing vaccine cooperation, namely between Genexine and Kalbe Farma," Retno said.
In the economic sector, Indonesia and South Korea successfully developed several new cooperation initiatives.
Recently, state-owned enterprises Minister Erick Thohir and Head of BKPM (Investment Coordinating Board) Bahlil Lahadalia visited Seoul and resulted in concrete cooperation, among others, investment in a glass factory from Korea, KC Glass, with a value of Rp 5.1 trillion which can employ 1,300 Indonesian workers.
Then, Sejin Fashion, which is engaged in the garment and footwear industry, has also declared an investment commitment with a value of Rp 1.2 trillion and can absorb over 4,000 local workers.
“LG Chem (from Korea) will develop the electric car battery industry. This is a very large investment and we are still calculating the amount,” Retno said.
During the meeting with Foreign Minister Retno, Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Gunn also conveyed an invitation from Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-Wha to conduct a Joint Ministerial Commission in Seoul later this year, and participate in the UN Peacekeeping
Operations Ministerial Meeting in 2021, because Indonesia is considered having made a very significant contribution to peacekeeping. (Antaranews)
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met with ASEAN Foreign Ministers and the United Kingdom on Wednesday to discuss the cooperation between the two continents.
The UK donated £ 1 million (around Rp.19 billion) to the ASEAN COVID-19 Response Fund to help Southeast Asian countries fight the coronavirus pandemic.
"Indonesia welcomes Britain's contribution to the ASEAN COVID-19 Response Fund of 1 million pounds," Retno said in a press briefing in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Retno also emphasized the importance of vaccine cooperation at the meeting.
"Indonesia also hopes that the development of vaccine candidates in the UK, which is already at an advanced stage, is a step that brings us closer to getting an equivalent vaccine," Retno continued.
Retno said that ASEAN and the UK must continue to strengthen global health governance to expect the possibility of another pandemic.
"It is important for ASEAN and the UK to continue to promote multilateral vaccines to ensure equal access to safe vaccines at affordable prices, through the Covax Facility Framework," she said.
Retno said if all countries committed to multilateralism, they will contribute to world peace, stability, and prosperity.
"First, Indonesia hopes that Britain will continue to play a role as guardian of multilateralism," she said.
She said there are positive values in multilateralism such as a sense of equality, certainty, a sense of belonging, and protection for all countries.
Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto emphasized that defense cooperation between Indonesia and the Swedish royal government will have an impact on the development of the defense industry.
He hopes that the Indonesian Parliament can immediately approve the bill (RUU) on Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden regarding Cooperation in the Defense Sector.
"The ratification of this cooperation will have implications for cooperation in the defense sector, open up opportunities for Indonesia to develop the defense industry, intensify defense cooperation, lay a solid legal foundation for defense cooperation between the two countries," Prabowo said at the House of Representatives Commission I virtual meeting, on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed the Bill on Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden regarding Cooperation in the Defense Sector that was proposed by the government.
Prabowo believes that the ratification of the cooperation will have positive implications for the political aspects of the two countries, namely increasing and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Therefore, he hoped that it can encourage the strengthening of cooperation in other fields that are beneficial to the development and national interests of the two countries.
He explained that the defense cooperation between Indonesia and the Kingdom of Sweden includes seven points.
First, the exchange of information and experiences on issues of common interest related to political, military, and international maritime security issues.
"Second, exchange information and best practices, and promote cooperation between agencies of the two countries in the field of research and development of science and other related institutions," he said.
He explained, the third point, development of cooperation and exchange of experiences related to logistical support and maintenance on the basis of mutual benefit and agreement from the parties; fourth, support for the development of cooperation in the defense industry which includes technology transfer, joint research, joint production, joint marketing, and quality assurance.
Fifth, development and enhancement of military training at all levels including civilian personnel in the Ministry of Defense; sixth, the development of activities that lead to military medical and health activities; and seventh, other mutually agreed upon cooperation.
Prabowo said that based on Law No. 24 of 2000 on International Treaties, it is stated that the conditions for the entry into force of international agreements in the defense sector must be ratified in the form of laws.
For this reason, the Ministry of Defense submitted the bill to the DPR RI to get joint approval and the law would become the legal basis for any cooperation in the defense sector between the two countries. (Antaranews)
Indonesia shows social concern for Argentina amid the COVID-19 pandemic by providing sanitation tools and basic food assistance to the government of the Province of Buenos Aires.
The assistance is part of the "Indonesia Solidaria" program, which is an act of social awareness from the Indonesian Embassy in Buenos Aires to ease the burden on the Argentinean people affected by COVID-19, according to a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Buenos Aires received in Jakarta, Wednesday.
"This solidarity is manifested by the Indonesian Government through the Indonesian Embassy in Buenos Aires, by providing assistance with sanitation tools, staple foods, and public kitchen operations," the Indonesian Ambassador for Argentina Niniek Kun Naryatie said.
Ambassador Niniek emphasized that the friendship between Indonesia and Argentina recognizes no geographical barriers, and the COVID-19 pandemic which has a tremendous impact requires every country to help.
"Indonesia is your friend, Indonesia is your brother, and the most important thing is Indonesia for you," Ambassador Niniek said when handing over sanitation tools and staple food aid to the government of the Province of Buenos Aires.
The pandemic had a socio-economic impact on Argentine society.
The unemployment rate in Argentina reached 26.7 percent and the poverty rate rose to 37.5 percent or 11 million people. In addition to sanitation and staple food assistance, the Indonesian Government through the Indonesian Embassy in Buenos Aires also finances the operation of two public kitchens in the city of Lanús, Buenos Aires Province, for five days from 28 September to 2 October 2020.
Lanús is a buffer city for the capital city of Buenos Aires, with a population of 450 thousand people.
Since the pandemic, the industrial sector which is the mainstay of the city has also been sluggish. To survive, poor people rely on public kitchens owned by the government or local communities. They will wait in line to get a bowl of soup, pasta, or potatoes for lunch.
Since the pandemic, public kitchens were set up everywhere to feed tens of thousands of underprivileged people every day.
In his remarks, the Head of the Agency for Institutional and International Relations of the Province of Buenos Aires, Sofia Sternberg, expressed his gratitude and said that the assistance provided would be of great help to the people in the Province of Buenos Aires.
He also hoped that after the pandemic, between Indonesia and Argentina, especially with the Province of Buenos Aires. (Antaranews)
The Energy Ministers' meeting who are members of the G20 agreed on the important role of biofuels for the clean energy transition.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif attended the meeting on the second day of the G20 Energy Ministerial level virtually.
Arifin Tasrif said on the website of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Jakarta, on Wednesday, that Indonesia is trying to build national energy independence and sovereignty by encouraging increased use of biofuels.
The meeting resulted in documents related to the Circular Carbon Economy (CCE) Platform.
One of the successful innovations is the implementation of biodiesel 30 percent (B30) in the transportation sector, which is estimated to reduce emissions by 16.9 million tons of CO2.
"This biodiesel utilization program is a concrete form of Indonesia's active participation in the action to reduce global GHG emissions," Arifin said at the meeting.
He said Indonesia has also found an effective catalyst in the production process of fractions or types of petroleum formation using palm oil or green fuels at Pertamina's refineries, namely Katalis Merah Putih.
In the joint communique, the G20 Energy Ministers acknowledged that the current crisis, apart from having a direct impact on health, economy, and society, has caused the destabilization of the global energy market.
They also noted the disproportionate effect the pandemic has had on the most vulnerable communities and communities, underlining the need to ensure that energy sector recovery efforts leave no one behind.
Therefore, the G20 Energy Ministers agreed on the importance of international cooperation in ensuring energy system resilience that benefits all parties.
"We emphasize that the immediate challenges posed by the pandemic have not dampened our determination to advance our efforts by exploring various options and leveraging various technologies and fuels according to the national context to ensure a stable and uninterrupted supply of energy to achieve economic growth," the Joint Communique states.
Meanwhile, in the CCE Platform document, the G20 Energy Ministers agreed that biofuel is one of the important components to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through technology and innovation or reduce elements and neutralize carbon emissions through natural processes and decomposition or recycle elements.
Biofuels together with hydrogen could play a role in accelerating the energy transition to cleaner energy systems and supporting economic growth.
"We also note the cross-sector roles of bio-energy and biofuels among the four elements in the CCE," the Joint Communique of the G20 Energy Ministers states.
The CCE Platform has four elements, namely reduce, which is an effort to reduce GHG emissions by utilizing technology and innovation.
The second element is reuse, namely reusing carbon emissions and making it an industrial raw material. Next is recycling, neutralizing carbon emissions through natural processes and decomposition.
The fourth element is removed, which removes emissions from the atmosphere and heavy industry and facilities through carbon capture and storage.
At the end of the meeting, the G20 Energy Ministers agreed to encourage a transition to clean energy with a wider variety of options, technologies, and fuels under the conditions and situations of each country. (Antaranews)
