Voice of Indonesia present “Let’s Speak Bahasa Indonesia,” a lesson in the Indonesian language on the radio, introducing some Indonesian vocabulary and tips on how to use it in a conversation. This segment is a joint initiative of Voice of Indonesia and the Language and Book Development Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.  Today’s topic is Menanyakan Tujuanor ‘Asking Destination’.

Next is a conversation about Menanyakan Tujuan or ‘Asking Destination’. The conversation is between Kevin and Immigration officer.The immigration officer asked about the purpose of Kevin's arrival.  

Kevin                          : Selamat pagi.

Immigration Officer              : Selamat pagi.

Kevin                                      : Ini paspor saya, Pak.

Immigration Officer              : Ya. Apa tujuan Anda datang ke Indonesia?

Kevin                                      : Saya datang ke Indonesia untuk kuliah.

Immigration Officer              : Baik.

In the dialogue, the immigartion officer asks Kevin about his purposes to come to Indonesia by using an expression Apa tujuan Anda datang ke Indonesia? You can change the expression apa tujuaninto untuk apa. For example : Untuk apa Anda datang ke Indonesia? The word untuk is preposition which is used to express purposes.

To respond expression asking for purpose, you can use the word untukby following your purpose. For examples:

Immigration Officer  : Apa tujuan Anda datang ke Indonesia?

                                                What is your purpose to come to Indonesia?

Biak Numfor is one of regencies in Papua province, Indonesia. The regency consists of 2 small islands namely Biak and Numfor Island, including more than 42 tiny islands, such as Padaido Island which becomes the main development activities of many people.

Padaido comes from local language which means the beauty that is unrevealed. According to a research which was conducted by Biodiversity Conservation Network, Padaido Island is one of places whose biodiversity of coral ecosystem is the largest in the world. Over there, there is coral reef rehabilitation center so that the existence of marine tourism potential on the island is well-ordered.

The island has 95 species of rock and 155 species of fish such as various kinds of sharks and octopus as well as various maritime wealth. Padaido Island is a cluster of rocky islands consisting of 30 islands in Pacific Ocean on the Eastern part of Biak Island.

Padaido Island has around 9252 hectares wide of coral reef. If you are in Biak and want to visit Padaido Island, you can go to Tiptop port in Biak and rent speedboat to Padaido Island.

Trip to cross the sea takes around 3 hours. Along the trip, you can see some dolphins which appear on surface of Blue Ocean. It looks beautiful.

If you go to Padaido Island, you have to be careful when low tide. The low tide can endanger ship or boat because there are many kinds of rock surrounding the sea.

On Padaido Island, you can see beautiful undersea scenery such as cave. To see the cave, you have to dive until 12 meters deep.

In addition, you can also see shipwreck, carcasses of aircraft and some ex-war equipment. We suggest you to dive in the sea when hot weather so that reflection of sunlight can illuminate to the depth of 15 meters. So, you do not need carry searchlight.

If you want to stay at night, you can stay near Padaido Island. The lodging is not luxurious, but it can be comfortable place to stay there.

At least, 500 Indonesian citizens flocked Wisma Duta of the Embassy of Republic of Indonesia in Beijing, China to celebrate New Year's Eve. Most of them who are students stayed at the Indonesian Embassy on Tuesday (31/12) at 19.00 local time until Wednesday morning. Before entering 2020, Indonesian Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun and Trade Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy, Marina Novira read poetry to release 2019. The celebration of New Year's Eve was the second time that was held at the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing. The first celebration was held when welcoming 2019.


Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Wan Azizah Ismail expressed his sorrow over the flood disaster in Jakarta and its surroundings. The Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister's remarks were conveyed through his Twitter account in Kuala Lumpur, Thursday night (2/1). He hopes that everything will recover. On that occasion, Wan Azizah also linked the BBC London Section of Indonesia news under the title Jakarta Flood and surrounding areas: Areas on the riverbanks immediately emptied, floods could come suddenly. So far, Wan Azizah Ismail has always given a speech every time a disaster occurs in Indonesia, including during West Nusa Tenggara disaster some time ago. Floods in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi also received the attention of Malaysian media, such as Astrowani, Sinar Harian, and MalaysiaKini.


The Association of Indonesian Film Company decided to send the films 'Kucumbu
Tubuh Indahku’ dan ‘Ambu’ as Indonesia's representatives in the 59th Asia Pacific Film Festival which will be held in Macau, 7 to 9 January. According to Secretary General of the Indonesian Film Company Association, Zairin Zain through official information received by Antara on Thursday (2/1), the two films have been chosen through careful consideration. Both are considered to closely represent the national film world. He also mentioned that both films, Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku by Garin Nugroho, winner of the 2019 Indonesian Film Festival, and Ambu by Farid Dermawan, have different creative arts approach. Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku is considered to show not only an aesthetic image, but also one sub-culture of the complexity of sexuality with a symbolic approach. While Ambu film is a film that raises the issue of acculturation of Badui tribe, one of the strictest groups interacting with outside cultures. In addition to introducing Indonesian culture, the film is also considered to have an interesting story packed with charming cinematography. Indonesia's participation in the Asia Pacific Film Festival is inseparable from the history of the Indonesian Film Company Association as one of the founders and members of the Federation of Motion Pictures Producers in Asia Pacific, which was founded in 1953. A year later, in 1954, the Federation of Motion Pictures Producers in Asia Pacific started organizing the Asia Pacific Film Festival in Tokyo, Japan and this is held annually in turn by 22 member countries. Indonesia has won several honorable titles in this festival.

The Ministry of Manpower is targeting to build 2 thousand Community Vocational Training Centers (BLKs) this year. This figure is set far greater than the number opened from 2017 to 2019 which was 1,113 units. Through an official statement in Jakarta on Friday (1/3), Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah said that the community vocational training centers development program is a breakthrough to improve the competence of local human resources. The training centers are built in the area of religious education institutions such as Islamic boarding schools, seminaries, Dhammasekha, and Pasraman to provide hard skills and soft skills and character education that has been given to formal educational institutions. She also stated that through this program, students from religious education institutions and the surrounding community could have access to work skills training in accordance with the needs of the local labor market. 

The vocational determination in the training centers is based on the request of the beneficiary, in this case religious education institutions in each location so that they are more targeted. Because they are the party who knows the most potential in their respective area. In addition to meeting the needs of the local industry, through the training centers, the government also seeks to produce many entrepreneurs who can create employment for many people. Minister Ida added that each educational institution beneficiary would receive support in the form of financing the construction of a unit of workshop building, vocational training equipment for one vocational, operational cost assistance and financial assistance to implement two training program packages.

Previously, President Joko Widodo had inaugurated the Community Work Training Centers throughout Indonesia, at the Alfadlu 2 Islamic Boarding School, Kendal Regency, Central Java. According to the president, the competition for human resources between countries will focus on skills and vocational workforce. Therefore, vocational education through Community Work Training Centers is expected to increase quality vocational workforce; one of which is through religious education institutions, such as Pesantren, Islamic boarding school.
