UK hosted Global Vaccine Confidence Summit -

As part of its G7 Presidency, the UK Government convened the ‘Global Vaccine Confidence Summit’ on 3 June, a first-of-its-kind event, bringing together global experts from across the public and private sector to build and maintain confidence in vaccines.

During the Summit, world leading experts at the forefront of efforts to build vaccine confidence and tackle misinformation about vaccines offered their perspectives on the critical global actions that governments and partners from across sectors can take to address the issue.

It was acknowledged that increased levels of vaccine confidence, accessibility and availability are needed globally in order to end the pandemic. One of the biggest threats to confidence in vaccines is misinformation, which can damage public perceptions of vaccine safety and efficacy.

Speaking at the Summit Matt Hancock MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, UK Government:

"Vaccine confidence is an international challenge and one that needs international action. At the G7 Health Ministers meeting this week, we’ll be talking about how to beat this pandemic worldwide and also how to beat the worldwide pandemic of misinformation and mistrust that can hamper the responses.

"We’re launching, leading and championing a Global Vaccine Confidence Campaign led by the G7 Global Vaccine Confidence Working Group with a mission to promote confidence and trust in vaccines globally."

Delivering a keynote speech at the Summit, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General at World Health Organization (WHO) showed his support stating:

"A key driver of vaccination is public trust. Trust must be earned. To succeed in vaccinating the whole world, governments will have to deploy a range of strategies and tailor them to each country.”

Helle Thorning-Schmidt, former Prime Minister of Denmark and former CEO of Save the Children International, and Co-Chair of Facebook’s Oversight Board, who spoke at the Summit said:

"We know a lot about vaccine hesitancy which means we should know what to do and do it fast. A debate in one country impacts trust and hesitancy in others. The world is a small place. As a global community we have to understand that no one is safe until everyone is safe."

Wendy Morton MP, the UK’s Minister for European Neighbourhood and the Americas, expressed the UK and its G7 partner’s on-going commitment to support efforts to ensure vaccines are accessible, available and trusted globally. Caroline Dinenage MP, the UK’s Minister for Digital and Culture, called for greater international and cross-sector collaboration to tackle the threat of misinformation.

At the Summit, the UK Government announced ambitions for its G7 vaccine confidence activity designed to support global cooperation and more effective responses on vaccine confidence and addressing misinformation globally//Release - VOI

The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Indonesia celebrates World Environment Day (5 June) by conducting a virtual talk show themed “Restoring the Earth's Ecosystem”. This event is expected to increase awareness of the importance of preserving our forests, seas and biodiversity for the restoration of the earth's ecosystem.

The event was attended by the Head of the Legal and Budget Planning Working Group of the Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM), Didy Wuryanto, and featured a number of environmental activists and experts from various sectors.

Henriette Faergemann First Counsellor for Environment, Climate Action, Digital of the EU Delegation to Indonesia, said,

“World Environment Day is a reminder for us to always preserve the earth. The European Union takes part by involving the general public, especially young people, in the global #GenerationRestoration movement. Ecosystem restoration can start anywhere. We need to involve multiple parties to take action and make smart choices so as to increase our role in restoring
ecosystems.”

As part of EU Environment Day 2021, the EU wishes to inspire youth action to make changes through the Social Media Challenge #GenerationRestoration.

“Healthy ecosystems can prevent the destruction of biodiversity. A well-maintained environment will remain a source of food and livelihood if we maintain a harmonious relationship with nature,” added Mrs Henriette.

Head of the Legal and Budget Planning Working Group of the Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM), Didy Wuryanto expressed his appreciation for the #GenerationRestoration Movement to inspire youth involvement in preserving
nature.

"One of them is through restoration programmes and peat ecosystems as well as rehabilitation of damaged mangroves," she said.

In the Talk Show session, environmental activists, experts and public figures shared their experiences about the smart innovations they had implemented.

On urban areas, the General Chair of Bike to Work, Poetoet Soedarjanto, pushed for policies to realise green transportation. Having cycled for more than 15 years for the sake of health and the environment, Mr Soedarjanto called for using a bicycle not only on weekends but also to work.

On Maritime sector, Nadine Chandrawinata, founder of the Seasoldier, highlighted the poor sea conditions because they are filled with plastic waste.

"Educational activities to increase public awareness about the cleanliness of the sea, continue to be carried out both at sea and on land. Young people in particular must continue to fight to maintain Indonesia as a marine country, so that it can be recognised as a clean country and cares about our own waste,” concluded Nadine//Release-VOI

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, and Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, attended a gathering of the Sharia Economic Community (MES) at The Tower building in Jakarta on Friday (June 4, 2021). (ANTARA/Asdep KIP Setwapres) -

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has said the development of the sharia ecosystem in Indonesia must be based on the use of digital technology and prioritize the local wisdom of various regions.

"There needs to be a breakthrough in developing a digital-based sharia ecosystem that is integrated and harmonized with local wisdom," the Vice President said while attending a gathering of the Sharia Economic Community (MES) at The Tower building in Jakarta on Friday.

Incorporating local wisdom is important, he explained, because the economic and social conditions of the people in each region are different.

He also asked the Sharia Economic Community to provide assistance and guidance to Islamic boarding schools so that their students could become skilled in entrepreneurship as well as at reading the Koran.

“This Islamic boarding school certainly still needs assistance, including debriefing for the students, so that more entrepreneurs from students are formed," Amin said.

Economic empowerment achieved through such assistance will not only be useful for the students, but also for the people who live around the Islamic boarding schools, he added.

Therefore, Islamic financial inclusion and Islamic boarding school education must be boosted by seeking active participation of all parties, he advised.

The Vice President also expressed the hope that the collaboration and innovation carried out would be developed further, so that the contribution of Islamic economics and finance to the national economic recovery can be realized.

"Let us work together for real innovation and collaboration, in order to realize the vision of sharia economy and finance that is increasingly advancing and prospering the people of Indonesia," he remarked//ANT
