The government of Indonesia officially controls the majority of PT Freeport Indonesia's shares. The certainty was obtained after the signing of the terms of the PT Freeport Indonesia divestment agreement at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Thursday (12/7). Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani at a press conference after the signing at the Ministry of Finance Office on Thursday, July 12, 2018 said that the agreement is a step forward and strategic to realize the agreement between the government and PT Freeport Indonesia, which was previously announced on August 27, 2017. By signing the agreement, this means that the divestment has been achieved. Hopefully, the partnership between PT Freeport Indonesia and Indonesia Asahan Aluminum -Inalum and the government is able to increase certainty in the corporation and added value of Indonesia's extractive industry, and able to improve the prosperity of Indonesian people in general and Papuan people in specific. Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten on Thursday (12/7) has received reports that Inalum has reached an initial agreement with PT Freeport Indonesia to increase Indonesia's ownership to 51 percent from 9.36 percent. He also explained that to control 51 percent of Freeport Indonesia's shares, it had to go through a very tough and very intense process for 3.5 years. Moreover, PT Freeport Indonesia has been managing mines in Indonesia for almost 50 years. President Joko Widodo hopes that with this ownership, the state will get more income from taxes, royalties, dividends and retributions so that the added value of mining commodities can be enjoyed by the people of Indonesia. In addition,  President Joko Widodo also stated that currently, the government is possessing 100 percent of Mahakam block oil. Mahakam block is submitted to PT Pertamina, which later can be collaborated with other companies.
