"The expectation of the Saudi Arabian Ambassador regarding investment movements between the two countries, which was welcomed by the vice president, should be immediately encouraged as an implementation of people-to-people contact," said the Vice President's spokesperson, Masduki Baidlowi after a meeting held at the Vice President's official residence in Central Jakarta, Jakarta.
During the meeting, the two parties agreed that there would be easy access for mutual visits between communities, as an effort to achieve increased investment by both countries.
"(It is about) how can we ensure that visits between the two countries are not complicated, but made easier. Thus, investments run smoothly and could return to the way it was before, (that is) visiting each other, because Covid-19 and various things hampered us," he said.
Vice President Ma'ruf Amin also welcomed the wishes of the Saudi Arabian ambassador to strengthen investment cooperation and will follow up in coordination with the relevant ministries/institutions.
"The vice president also responded well in support and, insha'allah (God willing), the Vice President will meet with relevant ministries/institutions to prioritize this," said Baidlowi.
On the same occasion, they also discussed the importance of following up on the commitments in forming a "high committee". The Indonesia-Saudi Arabia High Committee was formed by the two countries on October 20, 2023.
"The main aim of forming the committee is so that as soon as possible the memorandums of understanding (MoU) agreement can be implemented. The ambassador (of Saudi Arabia) accompanying President Jokowi's visit also asked the vice president to continue to encourage the committee to implement the agreement," he said.
Meanwhile, Indonesian President Joko Widodo's working visit to Riyadh last October was not only attending the ASEAN-GCC (Council of Gulf States) Summit, but also meeting the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammad bin Salman, and signing a number of MoUs.
"Several memorandums of understanding were signed, such as economic, investment, cultural, and increasing the Hajj quota," said Baidlowi.
