According to him, Polri will recruit 2,000 people in April this year. The recruits, all indigenous locals, will be educated for five months at the state police schools across Java. After that, they will be temporarily assigned to the regions for adjustment before being returned for duty in Papua.
He explained that the personnel would include 150 paramedics, especially doctors. The medical personnel recruitment will be carried out in collaboration with Cenderawasih University in Jayapura. Prasetyo said he is "committed" to accepting indigenous people to minimize the transfer of police members from outside Papua.
Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri, said that due to the expansive region, the number of local police stations is limited. Even some areas only have two stations, such as in regencies of Nduga and Puncak. As of today, the territory of the Papua Regional Police includes the province of Papua and three new provinces: Highland Papua, Central Papua, and South Papua.
"Hopefully, the increasing number of police members can expand services to the community," Fakhiri said. (Antara)
