VOInews, Jakarta : The National Strategic Project for Processing Waste into Electrical Energy (PSEL) for Makassar City reached a new stage with the signing of the Cooperation Agreement which was implemented at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves), Jakarta, Tuesday (24/09/2024).
Assistant Deputy (Asdep) at the Deputy for Maritime Sovereignty and Energy Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ridha Yasser, said that waste management in Indonesia has been regulated in accordance with Law (UU) Number 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management.
Its contents regulate improving public health and the quality of the environment, and to utilize resources, waste management must be carried out in a systematic, comprehensive and sustainable manner, including waste reduction and handling.
A significant reduction in the volume of waste, namely at least 80 percent of the volume of waste that has been disposed of at the final processing site (TPA), is very important for the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the city, especially in areas facing a waste emergency.
"One effort to overcome the waste emergency in certain areas is the issuance of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 35 of 2018 concerning the Acceleration of Construction of Waste to Electrical Energy (PSEL) Processing Installations Based on Environmentally Friendly Technology. "PSEL is what is known as a waste-to-energy power plant (PLTSa) in the energy sector or called waste to energy (WtE)," said Ridha in his speech.
According to Ridha, currently the waste problem has been a problem for a very long time and has not been resolved until now. Waste is a general problem, currently waste cannot be cleaned optimally because there is no storage and management, there is storage but because the management is not optimal and it ends up being overloaded.
Based on Presidential Decree Number 35 of 2018, at least 12 cities have been selected and one of them is Makassar City, which is a 'garbage emergency' area. In Presidential Decree 35/2018, the central government provides support through the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).
The Central Government continues to fully support the efforts of the Regional Government, especially the Makassar City Government, to achieve environmentally sound city development, and for this reason all stakeholders must collaborate to handle this waste so that it has a positive impact on the environment, society and the economy.
"Today we witnessed together the process of signing the Cooperation Agreement between the Makassar City Government and the SUS Shanghai Holding Limited Consortium - Shanghai SUS Environment Co. Ltd - PT Grand Puri Indonesia," he said.
The signing of the Cooperation Agreement for an investment project worth USD 200 million was carried out between the Makassar City Government represented by the Mayor of Makassar, Mohammad Ramdhan Pomanto and PT Sarana Utama Synergy represented by CTO SUS Environment, Jiao Xue Jun; and Main Director of PT. Synergy Primary Facility, Yee Wai Kuen.
According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday September 24th 2024 in Jakarta, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries as Chair of the Coordination Team for the Acceleration of PSEL Development in accordance with the mandate of Presidential Decree Number 35 of 2018 concerning the Acceleration of Construction of Waste to Electrical Energy Processing Installations based on Environmentally Friendly Technology acted as a witness represented by Assistant Deputy for Energy, Ridha Yasser.
The signing was also witnessed by representatives from various Ministries from the Central Government who support the accelerated implementation of PSEL development, including the Ministry of the Environment, KPPIP, Ministry of Finance, the Government Goods/Services Procurement Policy Institute, and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs as well as assistance from the Makassar Prosecutor's Office and the South Sulawesi Regional Police .
The signed project is located in Makassar City with a construction capacity of 1,300 tons/day. This project will be equipped with two combustion lines with a capacity of 2x650 tons/day.
As one of the national strategic projects for waste processing in Indonesia, this project will not only help overcome increasingly serious waste management problems, but also significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, supporting Indonesia in achieving its carbon neutral target.
SUS Environment CTO, Jiao Xue Jun in his speech stated, "We are very honored to be able to participate in the waste incineration project for power generation in Indonesia. As a leading clean energy company in China, we will utilize our technological and management advantages to ensure successful project development and operation efficient, as well as providing new impetus for sustainable development in Indonesia."
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Makassar, Moh Ramdhan Pomanto, said he was grateful that the PSEL cooperation based on environmentally friendly technology could finally be signed after going through a long process. "Today is a long journey, we are taking care of it together carefully," he said on the same occasion.
This project is expected to begin operations at the end of 2026, and is expected to become an important pilot project in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region.
During the project construction period, it will also create many jobs for the local community and encourage the development of related industrial chains.
This cooperation not only deepens collaboration between China and Indonesia in the field of green energy and environmental protection, but also represents an important achievement within the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative.
Both parties stated that they will continue to strengthen cooperation and jointly promote the implementation of more environmental protection and sustainable development projects, making positive contributions to environmental protection of regional ecosystems and economic development//VOI

VOInews, Jakarta : Advances in the digital era have brought a shift in literacy. Currently, some people look for information through social media. No more reading books. Searching for information on social media should be considered entertainment.
This was conveyed by member of Commission X DPR RI Putra Nababan at the Socialization Reading hobby activity held by the National Library in Jakarta, Tuesday, (24/9/2024).
Indonesia at the age of one century (2045) will be filled with young people who are the result of the demographic bonus. The basis is family support as the basis for developing literacy from an early age.
"To become a strong country, we need strong families that are formed from parents' support for children's literacy," said Putra.
According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday on September 24th 2024 in Jakarta, Putra added that this support can be started by providing reading materials at home to encourage children's curiosity.
In a child's growth and development, parents' support for literacy is very important.
“Accompany them in reading. Interact when children read books. Create activities after reading. "Encourage children to do things like in the books they read," advised literacy activist Maman Suherman.
He added that the current challenge for children's literacy is digital which is full of inappropriate content. So, parents must strictly limit the use of screen time. Prioritize activities with children so that they can be guided in digital literacy.
In the context of development, humans are one component whose capacity must be increased. Therefore, this year the National Library initiated the Indonesian Reading Movement program.
This movement targets all entities in society, starting from early childhood, teenage students, parents, teachers, librarians, literacy activists to library managers and TBM.
"This program is a form of good practice on the importance of reading as the main capital in improving literacy culture in society," explained National Library Library Resource Development Deputy Adin Bondar.
Academic from Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University, Adiyati, stated that the future of a nation is determined by the current young generation.
So, it is not wrong that parents need to model literacy for their children because everything that grows from home will be a key factor in the child's life in the future.
Closing the talk show, Program Officer from The Asia Foundation, Sinta Aryasatyani, said that literacy from an early age does not grow by itself, but must be formed and developed by creating an interactive and fun atmosphere.
"Give attention, love and appreciation to children's potential so that they are comfortable talking and feel appreciated," concluded Sinta.
On the sidelines of the activity, National Library handed over symbolic assistance in the form of 1,000 copies of quality reading books along with display shelves to TBM Sijabrik, TBM Rumah Literasi and TBM Rumbana//VOI

VOI News, Jakarta: Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia is upbeat about Indonesia mobilizing its profuse natural resources to contribute notably to the global efforts aimed at achieving the net-zero emissions target by 2060.
"Our country is blessed with an enormous amount of natural resources. We have quite abundant renewable energy sources," Minister Bahlil conveyed in a statement received from his office in Jakarta on Friday.
As quoted by Antara News Agency on Friday (20/9), speaking at an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) awarding ceremony on Thursday (September 19), Lahadalia affirmed that the transition to the more intensive use of new and renewable energy has become inevitable in countries across the globe.
Hence, to this end, the minister underscored the need for Indonesia to assume a strategic role by exerting even greater efforts to preserve the environment and promote the utilization of clean energy.
"Nowadays, talks across the world revolve around green energy and industry, placing focus on long-term sustainability. With that in mind, I believe we have no choice (but to transition). It is necessary to pay closer attention to environmentally friendly development going forward," he said.
The minister also pointed out that in European countries, financial services institutions had begun to embrace the transition to green energy by necessitating people to obtain recommendations from environmental bodies before they could receive financial support.
Indonesia has an enormous new and renewable energy potential of 3,687 gigawatts (GW), comprising 95 GW of hydropower, 3,294 GW of solar power, 57 GW of bioenergy, 24 GW of geothermal energy, 155 GW of wind energy, and up to 63 GW of sea wave power electrification potential.
Furthermore, the Indonesian government has emphasized its commitment to cutting carbon emissions by at least 912 million tons by 2030 in the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (ENDC) document.

VOI News, Jakarta: The Indonesian Navy is helping support the domestic industry by involving it in the modernization of defense equipment.
As quoted by Antara News Agency on Friday (20/9), Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral Muhammad Ali, delivered the remarks after inducting two domestically manufactured offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) into the naval fleet.
"It shows our support for the domestic shipping industry, as 75 percent of the materials in the construction of these ships are all from within the country," he conveyed at the launch of the new ships at a shipyard in Bandar Lampung city, Lampung, on Friday.
The construction of OPV warships is a strategic step taken by the Navy and the Ministry of Defense to increase operational capacity and capability in facing increasingly complex maritime threats, he informed.
"Of course, as a maritime country with great maritime potential, Indonesia cannot escape from various consequences as well as strategic challenges," he explained.
Indonesia's geographical location and marine wealth have made the archipelago vulnerable to maritime security disturbances, Navy Chief of Staff pointed out.
"It includes violations of territory and natural resources. To face these challenges, the Indonesian Navy continues to strive to strengthen and build its strength," Ali expounded.
Therefore, the Navy will continue to modernize its equipment to maintain the sovereignty and security of Indonesian waters.
"The defense equipment modernization program is also in line with the long-term strategic plan that aims to realize a modern Indonesian Navy that is regionally fearsome and has global projections," Ali said.
The Navy has strengthened its combat fleet by adding two OPV warships made by the domestic shipping industry — KRI Lukas Rumkorem-392 and KRI Raja Haji Fisabilillah-391.
The two OPVs will operate at Koamarda III in the eastern waters of Papua.
