PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)
State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

Coronavirus: Australian Scientists First to Recreate Virus Outside China
Written by Ani HasanahScientists in Australia have become the first to recreate the new coronavirus outside of China in what they have called a "significant breakthrough".
The discovery will be shared with the World Health Organization (WHO) in the hope it may help efforts to diagnose and treat the virus.
Scientists in China have also recreated the virus and shared its genome sequence, but not the virus itself.
The outbreak has killed 132 people in China and infected close to 6,000.
There are at least 47 cases confirmed in 16 other countries, including in Thailand, France, the US and Australia. No deaths have been reported outside China.
Researchers at a specialist lab in Melbourne, Australia, said they were able to grow a copy of the virus from an infected patient. The sample was sent to them last Friday.
"We've planned for an incident like this for many, many years and that's really why we were able to get an answer so quickly," said Dr Mike Catton of the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity.
Hope of 'game changer'
Doctors said the copy could be used as "control material" for testing and "will be a game changer for diagnosis".
That could involve an early-diagnosis test which could detect the virus in people who have not displayed symptoms.
Chinese authorities have said the virus - like a normal flu - is able to spread during its incubation period.
But the WHO has said it remains unclear whether it is contagious before symptoms appear.
"An antibody test will enable us to retrospectively test suspected patients so we can gather a more accurate picture of how widespread the virus is, and consequently, among other things, the true mortality rate," said Dr Catton.
"It will also assist in the assessment of effectiveness of trial vaccines."
According to the WHO, the incubation period can range from two to 10 days.
In recent days, the number of virus cases in China has jumped rapidly, despite authorities scrambling to contain its spread.
Chinese authorities have taken extensive action to effectively lock down Wuhan in Hubei province, where the virus originated, and surrounding cities. (BBC)

Wuhan Virus Outbreak Yet to Impact Exports to China: Minister
Written by Ani HasanahIndonesia's Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita attested to the fact that the coronavirus outbreak had yet to impact the exports of industrial products to China despite concerns of China's economy weakening owing to the pandemic.
"I think there is no impact yet of the outbreak in spite of concerns that China's economy will weaken significantly due to the virus outbreak. This is something that we have to monitor," Kartasasmita stated in Jakarta on Tuesday.
China’s authority has yet to confirm the incubation period of the virus, though Indonesia will remain vigilant, the minister stated.
"I think this is something to be observed closely. We have to remain vigilant," he noted.
Kartasasmita has also appealed to the Health Ministry to prevent the virus from spreading to the country through the import of raw material and substitutions from China.
"I will confirm this with Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto, so that they could check all imported products from China," the minister stated.
The Wuhan coronavirus has, until now, claimed 106 lives, with almost 2,800 cases confirmed across China, as the country initiates emergency procedures to strive to rein in the pathogen's global spread.
The virus has spread quickly around the world since it was first discovered in Wuhan last month.
Several countries, including the United States, Australia, France, and Spain are looking to repatriate citizens and government employees from China. (ANTARA)

Indonesia Issues Travel Advisory for China over Coronavirus
Written by Ani HasanahDue to the spread of the coronavirus or 2019-nCoV, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry has issued a travel advisory for its nationals who intend to visit China. "Indonesian citizens who are still at home should reconsider their plan to visit China and have the wisdom to select and respond to the circulating information related to the outbreak of 2019-nCoV," acting spokesman of the ministry Teuku Faizasyah said during a press briefing in Jakarta, Monday.
In response to the spread of coronavirus in China, Faizasyah said the Foreign Ministry has not yet issued a travel ban for China.
"We only advise citizens who wish to or have plans to travel to China, to exercise caution and avoid areas which based on open information have been affected or have the potential to be affected by coronavirus," he said.
He also advised Indonesian citizens planning to visit China to access information on the location of destination through SafeTravel application provided by the Foreign Ministry.
"Through the application, anybody can understand the extent to which the Foreign Ministry recommends those wishing to travel," he said.
The information in the application is provided based on clear criteria and open information so that it can be accounted for, he added.
In the application, Hubei Province in China where Wuhan City is located is in red, which means Indonesian citizens 'cannot' visit it due to a health threat.
The areas marked in yellow mean that Indonesians are 'advised' not to visit there.
Based on information from the Chinese National Health Commission as of Sunday afternoon, January 26, the number of infected patients reached 2,762, and the number of suspected patients stood at 5,794.
Meanwhile, the number of patients who died of coronavirus in China reached 80 with 29 out of 31 provinces/cities having been affected. (ANTARA)

Two West Nusa Tenggara's Students in Wuhan are Well: LPP
Written by Ani HasanahHead of West Nusa Tenggara Office's Cooperation Division of Education Development Agency (LPP) said two Indonesian students from West Nusa Tenggara Province keep staying at their university's dormitory in Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, but they are well.
The agency also keep coordinating with those from the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing to make sure the students' condition, Head of LPP-West Nusa Tenggara Office's Cooperation Division Imanuella Andilolo said in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday.
"We keep monitoring their condition there," she said, adding that there are four students of West Nusa Tenggara who pursue their study in Wuhan, China, under a scholarship scheme but two others had returned to Indonesia for holiday.
The students who still stay at their dormitory receive regular check-ups on their body temperature everyday from the local Chinese authority to make sure that they do not suffer any coronavirus symptom, Andilolo said.
Their university authority also reopen the university's canteens to help the students get food without leaving the campus area, she added.
As of Sunday, the coronavirus has claimed the lives of 56 people in China, and many other countries, including the United States of America and Canada, have announced their confirmed cases.
However, none of confirmed cases has been found in Indonesia. Apart from this reality, since the World Health Organization (WHO) issued its official statement on the outbreak of coronavirus in China, the Indonesian Government has stayed alert.
As part of its precautionary measures, thermal scanners have been installed at various airports around the archipelago for screening international passengers.
The thermal scanners are aimed at detecting any foreign tourist suffering from the symptom of this novel (new) coronavirus.
The first case of coronavirus was declared by Chinese authorities after a person with pneumonia was hospitalized in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, according to a WHO's official statement.
As published in its official statement on January 9, 2020, WHO revealed that the "Chinese investigators conducted gene sequencing of the virus, using an isolate from one positive patient sample."
As for the outbreak of the coronavirus, ANTARA quoted a WHO report from its official website on Thursday as saying that it was informed of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan on December 31, 2019,
In addition to providing care to patients and isolating new cases as they are identified, Chinese public health officials have reported that they remain focused on continued contact tracing, conducting environmental assessments at the wholesale market, and investigations to identify the pathogen causing the outbreak.
WHO is closely monitoring this event and is in active communication with counterparts in China. In line with standard protocols for any public health event, an incident management system has been activated across the three levels of WHO (country office, regional office and headquarters) and the Organization is prepared to mount a broader response if needed.
WHO further revealed that the preliminary determination of a novel virus would assist authorities in other countries to conduct disease detection and response. Over the past week, people with symptoms of pneumonia and reported travel history to Wuhan had been identified at international airports.
"WHO does not recommend any specific measures for travelers. WHO advises against the application of any travel or trade restrictions on China based on the information currently available," it said.(ANTARA)

The cooperation of the two countries showed an increase since Indonesia and India, cooperation, trade and international affairs in 2018. It was stated by Indonesian Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning / National Land Agency Head Sofyan Djalil representing Indonesian government in the reception of the Republic Day of India in Jakarta, Friday (24/01). Sofyan Djalil believes Indonesia-India relations will be even brighter in the future.
Last year our two leaders had met two times. Both sides agreed to boost trade and investment in potential sectors, such as agriculture, infrastructure, energy, health and in pharmaceuticals. They also committed to boost the agreement of bilateral trade target of 50 billion US dollars by 2025. We agreed to extend collaboration in strategy, defence industry, academic, science and technology including outer space. I am confident that if we build strong ties of friendship and complementary peace between our two economies, the future will be bright for India and Indonesia.

That is because there is no strong will to maintain agreements that are built and based on mutual awareness. President Joko Widodo Receives Honorary Visit of Hungarian PM Delegation

In his remarks, President Joko Widodo expressed his appreciation for the bilateral cooperation that has existed between Indonesia and Hungary in the field of water supply. Jokowi also assured that he would study further the cooperation proposal submitted by the Hungarian side in the field of hospital construction. Hungary volunteered to collaborate with Indonesia to build a hospital focused on cancer therapy and a military hospital.
“First, of course on, our cooperation on clean water supply I appreciate the project completed in December 2019 and implemented in 36 locations in 12 provinces in Indonesia. I hope we can continue this good cooperation. Second, I take a note and will study further the proposal to develop 3 hospitals with oncology detection and treatment facilities and military hospitals. Third, on the e-toll cooperation please make sure that the document for the project is submitted by 31st of January 2020 at the latest. The bidding process will take place in April 2020,” said President Joko Widodo.
Meanwhile, Hungarian Foreign and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto who was present accompanying Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban, said that Hungary supported the plan to grant visa-free for Indonesian citizens to the European Union. He also expressed his support for negotiating a free trade agreement between Indonesia and the European Union. According to him, it would provide benefits not only for Indonesia but also for ASEAN countries.

Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Pradeep Kumar Rawat is Optimistic about Trade in the Palm Oil Industry

It was stated by Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Pradeep Kumar Rawat in a special interview at Voice of Indonesia’s studio in Jakarta, Friday (24/01). During the interview, the ambassador talked about the close historical relationship between India and Indonesia and some of the potentials and challenges the two countries face, especially in the technology sector and the palm oil industry. Pradeep Kumar Rawat said that the leaders of both countries are placing significant emphasis on the relationship between the two countries. He also told that there are a lot of commonalities between India and Indonesia in the technology sector and stressed the importance of having technological cooperation.
"I would say the prospect is very good. India is already the largest importer of palm oil from Indonesia. And the trade is of close to US$5 billion. So, it's this large, I would say large amount and it's a large part of a trade and certainly, as the Indian economy grows, as our population grows, because we are still a growing population, the need for edible oil will certainly be large. The importance of India and Indonesia [technological] cooperation is that given the size and the diversity of our countries, our technology can be instrumental in providing better services and better connectivity," said Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat.
Indonesia and India are aiming to reach a total of US$ 50 billion in trade cooperation by 2025. The current trades amount to only US$ 21 billion, predominantly arising through the trade of palm oil and coal. Ambassador Rawat said if the two countries can further diversify trade, considering the sizes of the Indian and Indonesian economy, the target of US$ 50 billion can even be called conservative. President Jokowi Receives Hungarian Prime Minister
Written by Ani HasanahJakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received a courtesy call from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to discuss several areas of bilateral cooperation including the supply of clean water in several regions of Indonesia. "I appreciate the cooperation in clean water supply. The project was completed in December 2019 and was carried out in 36 regions of 12 provinces in Indonesia," President Jokowi said in his address during the bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta Thursday.
The President said the government will consider a plan to develop three hospitals in cooperation with Hungary.
He also invited Hungary to invest in e-toll cooperation.
Prime Minister Orban arrived at the palace at around 4.30 p.m. local time and was greeted by President Jokowi.
The two leaders later held a bilateral meeting. During the meeting, the president was accompanied by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister/State Secretary Pratikno, and Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.
In September 2019, Marsudi and her Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto agreed to encourage business intensity and accelerate the completion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-EU CEPA). (ANTARA)

Indonesia to Make Labuan Bajo Super Premium Tourist Destination
Written by Ani HasanahLabuan Bajo - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) led a limited meeting with ministers, heads of agencies, and regional officials at a hotel in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, Monday, to prepare it as a super premium tourist destination.
"Development of the super premium destination Labuan Bajo will likely have begun since the beginning of the year," Jokowi remarked while addressing some ministers, including Tourism Minister Wishnutama, SOEs Minister Erick Thohir, and Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya.
At the meeting, Jokowi highlighted several points linked to the development of Labuan Bajo, the first being how to organize the region since the government is eyeing it to be segmented on tourists spending higher than average.
"That is why we need to integrate some facilities here, especially related to hygiene, safety, and comfort, for tourists to stay," Jokowi noted while emphasizing the need to build more hotels in Labuan Bajo.
Jokowi spoke of some five zones that should be prioritized for this development: Bukit Pramuka, Bukit Air, container port as well as passenger dock, Marina, and Kampung Ujung.
The president stressed on the integration of all five zones, as they are prepared to be an integrated public area. "Thus, we are going to present a beautiful landscaping, expected to be such an 'engine' that encourages people's activities in Labuan Bajo," he stated.
Furthermore, more infrastructure development is required at the local airport, Komodo Airport, including the runway and terminal.
Jokowi had also commanded related officials to prepare human resources, local arts and cultures, as well as the resolution for land disputes, vessels registration, waste management, international-level events as promotion, and safety assurance for tourists. (ANTARA)
