The national COVID-19 vaccination program in Indonesia, dose 2 vaccination has now reached the level of 70.38 percent, plus the acceleration of booster vaccination. The Government then began to relax policies related to various activities including sports. This was marked by an announcement from the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhur Binsar Pandjaitan, who is in charge of handling Covid-19 in Indonesia, allowing spectators to return to sporting events in Indonesia.

In an online evaluation press conference for the Enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions on Monday (7/3/2022), Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan revealed that people who want to watch live sports events or sports competitions are welcome to come to the arena but with the condition that they have complete vaccinations including booster and connected to the PeduliLindungi or CareProtect application. However, he emphasized that the audience capacity was still limited. The restrictions are adjusted to the level of regional Enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions holding sporting events such as level four with 25 percent of spectators, level three with 50 percent, level two with 75 percent, and level one with 100 percent of spectators.

Regarding the possibility of spectators in the arena of sports competitions, this is good news for the country's sports industry. The reason is, there are a number of national and international sporting events that will be held in Indonesia this year. The international events that will take place in Indonesia include the Indonesian MotoGP, Formula E, World Superbike, the 2022 FIBA Asian Basketball Championship, Indonesian Masters and Indonesia Open in Badminton, also the Rock Climbing World Cup. Meanwhile, the national football competition league 1, league 2, league 3, and the Volleyball League as well as the Basketball league will certainly be flooded with spectators and supporters. Previously, several sports competitions were held without spectators since the government declared the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
