Mount Semeru Eruption, RAPI Volunteers: No Casualties yet

Volunteer for Indonesian Inter-Inhabitation Radio (RAPI) Lumajang, Iin Aditya said that there were no casualties in the Lumajang Volcano eruption. According to him, there were only two houses buried in Mount Semeru's lava in the Kobokan Waterfall area.

"It was reported that from the Lumajang location it was stated that there were no fatalities. Only two houses were buried in Mount Semeru lava in the Kobokan Waterfall area," Iin told rri.co.id, Sunday (4/12/2022).

Iin continued that currently residents around Mount Semeru were evacuated so they would not be affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru. According to his observation, residents were evacuated in several places, such as the Sumberjo Candipuro village hall, 132 people and 438 Candipuro sub-district offices.

Apart from that, according to his monitoring, there were also several temporary evacuation sites, namely the Oro-oro Ombo village hall with 217 people, SMPN 2 with 100 people. Then the Ar-Rahman Mosque 70 people, Nurul Jadid Mosque 70 people.

"In addition, there are 228 people at the Sumberurip village hall, 119 people at Sumberurip 2 Elementary School, 266 people at Supiturang 4 Elementary School. And the evacuation process is still ongoing," he explained.

It is known that the Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that there were five villages affected by the eruption of the Semeru volcano. Abdul also said that until now, there had been no reports of casualties.

"The areas affected by the Semeru Volcano APG include five villages. Nearby, there are Capiturang and Sumberurip Villages in Pronojiwo District," Abdul Muhari said in his statement quoted from bnpb.go.id, Sunday (4/12/2022).

"Sumbersari Village in Rowokangkung District was also affected. In addition, Penanggal Village and Sumberwuluh Village in Candipuro District and Pasirian Village in Pasirian Village." (RRI)
