The seventh Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest kicks off in Moscow. As per tradition, the submission of young photographers’ entries opens on the birthday of Rossiya Segodnya’s special photo correspondent Andrei Stenin, who died while on assignment after whom the contest was named.

The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, organized by Rossiya Segodnya under the patronage of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, aims to support young photographers and draw public attention to the challenges of photojournalism today. It is a platform for young photographers – talented and sensitive individuals open to all things new – to highlight people and events near us.

Professional photographers aged 18-33 can apply through https://stenincontest.com in English and Chinese (https://cn.stenincontest.com).

Photo series and single photos can be submitted in four categories Top News, Sport, My Planet, and Portrait: A Hero of Our Time. One single entry and one photo series can be submitted in each of the four categories. Submissions will be accepted until February 28, 2021.

In 2021, the prize fund will be 125,000, 100,000 and 75,000 rubles for the first, second and third places in each category. The winner of the highest Stenin contest award – the Grand Prix – will receive 700,000 rubles.

Of no less importance is the fact that young photojournalists will have the opportunity to show their works at Russian and international venues – a touring exhibition of the winning entries has become an integral part of the project and has been shown in dozens of cities in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.

Since 2018, the New York headquarters of the main international organization for strengthening peace and security in all countries, the United Nations (UN) has been one of the exhibit venues for Stenin contest winners. Since 2019, the contest’s exhibitions are also held at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

Oksana Oleinik, the curator of the photo contest and the head of the Visual Projects Service at Rossiya Segodnya, commented the launch of the 2021 contest:

“Launching another year of our contest is always like a shot of adrenalin for us. It means joyful anticipation of new works, new names, and new discoveries. This year, the start of the contest in such difficult conditions all over the world – during the COVID-19 pandemic – is also symbolic. New realities can change habits, dictate new conditions of work, but they cannot change basic values such as professionalism, the desire to create and share your ideas and vision of the world with a potential audience. Our contest is proceeding as planned. We believe it’s the same for our participants. We hope and wait for them to send new works, perspectives, and new topics. And, of course, we wish them good luck and victory!”.

Feb. 1 - The Health Ministry has projected the arrival of some 23.1 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine produced by AstraZeneca in Indonesia in the first quarter (Q1) of 2021 under the COVAX Facility scheme. The scheme is co-led by the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI), Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), and World Health Organization (WHO).

GAVI in its letter, dated January 29, 2021, confirmed that the free vaccine allocation to Indonesia for the initial phase would be between 13.7 million and 23.1 million doses made by AstraZeneca, Siti Nadia Tarmidzi, a spokesperson of the ministry's COVID-19 vaccines, noted in a statement here on Sunday.

The vaccines will be dispatched in two stages, comprising 25-35 percent in the first quarter of 2021 and 65-75 percent in the second quarter of the initial phase of allocation.

The AstraZeneca vaccine can be administered to people aged 60 years and above.

"This is a success of our diplomacy. Through COVAX, we get access to free vaccines and in quick time. It will certainly complement the types of vaccines that currently exist. The AstraZeneca vaccine is one of the vaccines that can be administered to people aged 60 years and above. As we know, they are a group of people having the highest mortality rate," she stated.

The Indonesian government had earlier signed the COVAX Facility vaccine form to complete the confirmation of participation in the procurement of the free COVID-19 vaccines.

Indonesia has an opportunity to obtain a maximum of 108 million doses of vaccines from the international institution. The exact number of vaccine doses allocated for Indonesia depends on the Indonesian diplomacy.

Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi has coordinated with Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin to follow up on several areas that Indonesia must prioritize in its preparations for the vaccine delivery.

Vaccines from COVAX will unquestionably facilitate the government in fulfilling the requirements of the COVID-19 vaccination program since the procurement of COVAX vaccines is free.

Indonesia has received commitments and options to get 663 million doses of vaccines from AstraZeneca from the UK, Sinovac from China, Novavax from the United States and Canada, and Pfizer from the United States. (Antaranews)

Feb. 1 - Indonesia's government is expediting completion of 54 regulations derived from the Job Creation Law, comprising 49 governmental and five presidential regulations, to boost job creation and ease-of-doing business, Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto stated.

During the statement made in Jakarta on Sunday, the minister noted that the government had offered room for the people to gather their inputs and to take into account their aspirations in drafting derivative regulations on the Job Creation Law.

"From the start, the government has opened and provided four main channels for the wider community to provide inputs and convey aspirations," Hartarto noted in a statement.

The four main channels include the aspiration absorption team (TSA) and aspiration absorption events, as well as through official letters to the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and related ministries or agencies.

Up until January 25, a total of 112 web-form inputs were received from the general public through the Job Creation Law portal and posts and 48 inputs via e-mail.

Some 4.88 million people were recorded to have accessed the portal.

Inputs through an aspiration gathering event conducted offline in 15 regions across Indonesia had yielded 38 input files.

Aspirations through the absorption team were recorded to result in 227 input files.

Moreover, 72 input files were received through official letters send to the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs as well as to related ministries and institutions.

Coordinating Minister Hartarto expressed hope that the law would encourage the creation of government services that are more efficient, simple, and certain, through the application of set norms, standards, procedures, and criteria.

In addition, the Job Creation Law encourages job availability, offers ease in business licensing, and encourages people to start new businesses.

Moreover, it encourages the strengthening and empowering of micro and small businesses as well as encompasses efforts to avert and stamp out corruption through an integrated electronic system. (Antaranews)

Feb. 1 - Britain will next week formally apply to join a trans-Pacific trading bloc of 11 countries, with negotiations set to start later this year, the government said on Saturday.

Since leaving the European Union, Britain has made clear its desire to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which removes most tariffs between Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.

“One year after our departure for the EU we are forging new partnerships that will bring enormous economic benefits for the people of Britain,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a statement.

Reuters reported on Thursday that Britain will not publish an assessment of the economic benefits of CPTPP membership before requesting to join it - contrary to earlier promises.

Previous government economic analyses of Brexit have pointed to small boosts to economic output from additional trade deals.

The government said joining CPTPP would remove tariffs on food and drink and cars, while helping to boost the technology and services sectors.

British trade minister will speak to counterparts in Japan and New Zealand on Monday with a formal request to join CPTPP, the statement said.

“Applying to be the first new country to join the CPTPP demonstrates our ambition to do business on the best terms with our friends and partners all over the world and be an enthusiastic champion of global free trade,” Johnson said. (Reuters)
