VOINews, Jakarta - Head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) Bambang Susantono, described this year's Independence Day commemoration at IKN as a precursor to next year's ceremony, which is expected to be led by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
"Today's ceremony is an initiation to next year's ceremony, which, hopefully, will be led directly by the President at the State Palace at IKN Nusantara," said Susantono who presided over the 78th Independence Day ceremony at IKN Nusantara, Samarinda, East Kalimantan, on Thursday.
He said he was grateful for the solemn ceremony that was attended by several elements of the community, including the management of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
"This ceremony was held by OIKN and Kadin," he added.
The collaboration between OIKN and Kadin in organizing the Independence Day ceremony at IKN this year was meant to demonstrate their commitment to building the new national capital.
OIKN and Kadin have both committed to making Indonesia the world's fourth-largest economic power, and one which is inclusive and united. They have also agreed to work together for realizing the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
Susantono said that his side is striving to strengthen the country's food and health sector and achieve the zero percent emission target.
He expressed the hope that Thursday's ceremony would be an inspiration to achieve the development targets at IKN as several private firms will start construction next month.
According to him, there will be physical buildings — not only government buildings, but also public facilities — that would be used during next year's ceremony at IKN Nusantara.
The ceremony at IKN Nusantara on Thursday was held in conjunction with the ceremony at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. President Widodo is looking forward to leading the Independence Day ceremony at IKN Nusantara on August 17, 2024. (Antaranews)
VOINews, Jakarta - A total of 10,265 inmates at correctional prisons and detention centers in Jakarta received remissions on the 78th anniversary of Indonesian independence, a government official said.
"Some 10,265 of the 15,816 inmates in correctional prisons and detention centers in Jakarta received general remission in 2023," Head of the Jakarta Regional Office of the Law and Human Rights Ministry Ibnu Chuldun informed here on Thursday.
According to him, of the 10,265 inmates who received remission, 9,792 people were granted general remission I, or a partial reduction of their sentence, and 473 people were granted general remission II, or were freed immediately.
At the Jakarta Narcotics Prison Class IIA in Cipinang, East Jakarta, he explained that the number of prisoners who were granted remissions was lower than the proposed number.
"We proposed 10,322 inmates and juvenile inmates, but only 10,265 people, or about 98 percent got approved (for remission)," Chuldun said.
The granting of this year's general remission not only reflects the government's steps to provide a second chance to prisoners, but also shows that the state emphasizes a holistic approach to the criminal justice system, he added.
"The granting of general remissions is a milestone in the journey toward a more just and humane justice system and is to convey that rehabilitation and reintegration are important to the goals of correctional services," he said.
The granting of remission is not solely given voluntarily by the government, but a form of appreciation for inmates who participated in the correctional program earnestly.
Chuldun said he expects that this will motivate inmates to always behave well and comply with the applicable laws. (Antaranews)
VOINews, Jakarta - State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir has said that the 78th anniversary of Indonesian independence has offered a momentum for youth revival.
For that reason, Thohir chose to wear clothing unique to the Boedi Oetomo organization to the Seconds to Proclamation Ceremony, which was held to mark the 78th anniversary of Indonesian independence at Merdeka Palace here on Thursday.
"I think this momentum is right because we know it (Boedi Oetomo) was a youth movement organization and today, the majority of Indonesia's population is young, and we are also in the process of transitioning to an advanced Indonesia," he said.
Commenting on a viral video showing Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono inspecting Thohir's suit, he said that he was just being playful.
"Mr. Hadimuljono when interacting with me likes to be playful," he added.
Other than Thohir, almost all ministers of the Onward Indonesia Cabinet wore traditional clothes from various regions of Indonesia to the Independence Day ceremony at Merdeka Palace.
For instance, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati wore traditional clothing from East Nusa Tenggara, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin wore Minahasa traditional clothing, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi wore clothing from West Sulawesi, and Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia from Papua.
Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wore the Ageman Songkok Singkepan Ageng clothing from Surakarta, Central Java, and First Lady Iriana wore traditional Balinese clothing.
Some of Indonesia's famous designers, such as Ali Charisma and Anne Avantie, said they were amazed by the President's traditional clothing.
Avantie said the President's attire showed him as a compassionate leader.
"Our head of state is the unifier of the nation, as the traditional clothes he wore is the Ageman Songkok Singkepan Ageng from Surakarta, which gives a message of a compassionate leader," she said. (Antaranews)
