President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) responded to the shooting case which killed 31 civilians in the district of Nduga, Papua province. After opening the World Anti-Corruption Day commemoration on Tuesday in Jakarta, Jokowi admitted that Nduga district was indeed one of the regions that had a high level of vulnerability to security disturbances. He said he had ordered the Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander and National Police Chief to find deeper information regarding the shooting case. Difficulty in the field and communication in Nduga district are also among the reasons to look for a more in-depth process of extracting information.

"The incident happened in Nduga district. This was a red zone. I used to go there. I ordered the commander and the National Police Chief this morning to investigate it first because this is still confusing. Because it was suspected, because there was no signal there. Whether the incident is really like that. But we realize that Papua is indeed a very difficult terrain. And also there are still security disturbances there," said Jokowi.

Previously there were shootings which led to deaths, allegedly carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the Nduga region of Papua, against 31 workers on road construction in Yigi-Kali Aurak River, Yigi District, Nduga District, on Sunday (2/12). As many as 31 people working for the state-owned company PT Istaka Karya, were reportedly working to open isolation in the central mountainous region. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appreciated the high Corruption Perception Index (CPI) in Indonesia with a score of 37. After opening the World Anti-Corruption Day commemoration on Tuesday in Jakarta, the President said that the data will become the basis of Indonesia's achievements in efforts to deal with corruption in the country. Therefore, according to him, there should be no one saying that corruption violations in Indonesia are at an alarming stage. This is due to the high number of Corruption Perception Indexes which show a significant increase since 1998.

"Since 1998 to 2018 I feel it has been significantly increasing. From the worst of all ASEAN countries, now Indonesia is now rising to the Corruption Perception Index to number 37. We should be grateful. Do not let anyone say that we are at the stage 4 level in corruption. No. We hope that the increase like that should be very good. Indeed, we need to improve a lot and fix it. But that there is such an increase, we cannot close our eyes. As the Head of the Corruption Eradication Commission said, our leap in the Corruption Perception Index is the highest in the world," said Jokowi.

Previously, the Head of the Corruption Eradication Commission Agus Rahardjo reported that the Corruption Perception Index in Indonesia had reached a score of 37. Even though the figure was stagnant over the past two years, Indonesia was still better compared to other countries in the region. When compared with the same index in 1998, Agus said that Indonesia was a country that had the highest CPI increase in the world with a value of 17. This figure was far above Vietnam, Argentina, Nigeria, China and the Philippines. (VOI/Ndy/AHM)

The Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that the government would multiply the capital injection of the state-owned financing company-PNM for people who need it. It was remarked by President Joko Widodo after holding a dialogue with the citizens of Bantarjati Administrative Village, Bogor City, West Java. In the dialogue, President Joko Widodo listened to the people's complaints regarding the challenges they encounter in developing economic activities. After the dialogue ended, President decided that the government needs to multiply the capital injection of PNM in a bid to improve society's economic activities.

After observing the condition in public, I met with some groups to learn more about their economic activities. Based on the dialogue, I concluded that the government needs to multiply the capital injection of PNM so that the capital can be allocated broadly and the amount of the loaning will be bigger,” said President Joko Widodo.

Furthermore, President Joko Widodo said that the Membina Ekonomi Keluarga Sejahtera -Mekaar (Fostering the Prosperous Family's Economy) Program of PNM has been implemented since the end of 2015 covering 3.9 million clients. According to the President, all this time, the loaning provided for people has been restricted only around Rp1 to 2 million. However, there are many people who demand bigger capital injection. The government targets 4 million clients of the financing program by the end of 2018. The government will also re-calculate the number of the loaning in order to eliminate economic gap.(VOI/NDY/AMANDA)
