Head of Data Center, Information, and Public Relations at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency-BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the number of dead victims due to the quake and tsunami in Palu, Donggala, Sigi, Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi reached 1,763 people. In a press conference held in Jakarta on Sunday (7/10), Sutopo explained that the number of victims keeps rising after the joint Search and Rescue Team (SAR) successfully evacuated 111 bodies buried by mud and ruins of buildings in a number of locations.
“During yesterday's evacuation, the joint Search and Rescue Team coordinated by the National Search and Rescue Agency found 111 bodies. Based on the data 106 of them were found in Palu, and 5 of them were found in Sigi. If we look at the data of the victims found in Petobo, Balaroa, Biromaru, and based on the coordination meeting in the National Assistance Post on Saturday (6/10), the evacuation is targeted to finish on 11th of October 2018 in accordance to the applied emergency response period,” said Sutopo.
Although the disaster emergency response will end in the next few days, Sutopo ensured that the evacuation process would still continue. However, the personnel and equipment to be deployed in the evacuation post the emergency response period will be less than the amount before the end of the disaster emergency response. The decision was made due to the factor that the number of victims is still possible to rise as there are still many buried victims who have not yet been evacuated. Sutopo said as many as 1,519 dead victims were found in Donggala, 159 people in Donggala, 69 people in Sigi, 15 others in Parigi Moutong, and a victim was reported found dead in Pasangkayu. Meanwhile, 265 people are missing, 2,632 are injured, and as many as 152 people were buried under the ruins. He said as many as 146 members of teams along with 1,175 personnel consisting of general practitioners, specialists, nurses, and anesthesiologists have been deployed. In a press conference held in Jakarta, on Sunday (7/10), Sutopo said that the Indonesian Military has also sent floating hospital at the KRI (Ship of the Republic of Indonesia) dr. Soeharso at Pantoloan Port in Palu.
“In total, there are 146 members of teams along with 1,175 personnel deployed to handle the medical treatment. They consist of 121 specialists, 278 general practitioners, 15 anesthesiologists, 527 nurses, and more. I got information that dr. Soeharso Floating Hospital has also been prepared to treat the victims, some also have been operated at the hospital located in a ship owned by the Indonesian Military,” said Sutopo.

Furthermore, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the medical treatment could be implemented in the form of static service namely providing health treatment directly in the location or mobile service in the location of the refugees. Sutopo also instructed those who want to help the victims not to give milk for infants as there is no enough supply of water in the refugee camp, since it can increase the risk of diarrhea for the infants.
