President of Palestine  Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to address his speech at the UN general assembly in New York on September 27, 2018. Palestinian Embassy in Indonesia is gathering support from many elements of societies of Indonesia consisting of representatives of inter-religion, humanitarian Institutions as well as Indonesian Foreign  Ministry. Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Zuhair Al Shun in Jakarta on Monday (24/9) said that international supports particularly Indonesia is an important base for Palestine as well as global stability.

"To express Indonesian principles towards problems of Palestinian who are experiencing the worst pressures and conspiracies, so your concern in facing Palestinian legitimacy especially under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas is a source of pride for the Palestinians. We also invite you today, my brothers and sisters, to support the Palestinian speech at the UN to thwart the agreement. As we also invite Arabs, Muslims and Christians to support this speech. International support for Palestinian issues is very important. This is the right time to support Palestine," said Zuhair Al Shun.

President Mahmoud Abbas asked participants of the UN General Assembly in 2016 to make 2017 as the year to end Israeli colonialism towards Palestine. In 2017 Donald Trump was elected the US President who is considered by the Palestinians as the most pro Israel leader. Indonesian Vice-President Jusuf Kalla has called for dialogue, reconciliation and justice for the whole communities to build world peace.Vice president Jusuf Kalla at a World Peace Summit to mark the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela at the United Nations Headquarters as quoted by Antara News Agency on Monday said that the reconciliation and justice are values that human right fighter Nelson Mandela has taught in his efforts to liberate his people from the discriminatory system of apartheid. He explained Mandela`s struggle has inspired the world and not only the people of South Africa// Vice president Jusuf Kalla believed that in the value of reconciliation. He referred as an example the successful process of reconciliation in Aceh (Indonesian province). The creation of peace in Aceh has made it possible for economic development to continue and former separatist leaders are now holding important government positions. He said the culture of dialogue could build peace as well as good relations between countries, tolerance between different religions and faiths and alliance of civilization. The 73rd UN General Assembly 2018 has started since Monday (24/9) at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States. Leaders from all member countries attended the meeting led by the UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres. At the General Assembly Indonesia is represented by Vice President Jusuf Kalla accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi. In a press statement received by Voice of Indonesia on Tuesday (25/9), Retno Marsudi explained the theme raised at the General Assembly is 'Making UN Relevant on People, Global Leadership and Share Responsibility for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Society'. She said the UN encourages global leadership which is very important for the world’s peace and prosperity. On the first day, Retno added, Vice President Jusuf Kalla attended three high-level meetings. While she has conducted a number of bilateral meetings.

 

"How the UN can encourage global leadership is very important for the world’s peace and prosperity. For today a number of events have been held. At the high level, Indonesian Vice President has attended, firstly, three high level meetings on global peace, secondly the issue of financing and sustainable development goals, and thirdly about sustainable ocean economy. While I myself have held a number of bilateral meetings, among others, with the Arab League, Greece, Colombia, Solomon Island and Saudi Arabia," Retno Marsudi said.

 

In addition, Retno Marsudi said she was one of the Foreign Ministers who was invited to discuss the situation in Rakhine State, Myanmar. However, she did not ellaborate the contents of the meeting. In the 73rd UN General Assembly Session, Indonesia has a special agenda to urge the United Nations to return to the issue of Palestinian independence. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al Shun had previously asked all elements of Indonesian society to support the speech that President Mahmoud Abbas would deliver later on Thursday, September 27, 2018. Deputy Minister of Japan Masahisa Sato visited Biak Numfor, Papua Province, on Monday, to strengthen cooperation with the Indonesian Government.

The Japanese official was pleased to be able to visit Biak Numfor District for the first time.

He said Biak is a special place for Japan, as some fallen Japanese soldiers had been buried there during World War II.

"I hope this working visit to Biak Numfor District would intensify bilateral ties with the Indonesian Government, in general, and with Papua Province as well as Biak Numfor, in particular," Sato stated.

Acting Biak Numfor Regent Herry Ario Naap greeted the Japanese deputy minister and expressed hope for closer bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Biak had helped return the remains of fallen Japanese soldiers, he noted.

He called for cooperation between Biak and Japan in the fields of education, aviation, fishery, and tourism, among others.

During the visit to Biak, Sato was accompanied by Director of second South East Asia Division Shingo Myamoto and Secretary of the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Isao Tezuka

Several diplomats of the Japanese embassy in Jakarta who were also part of the visit included Deputy Chief of Mission Keiichi Ono, First Secretary (economy) Daisuke Inoue, and Second Secretary (politics) Katnonori Tsunoda.

The Indonesian foreign ministry`s officials accompanying Sato were Diplomatic Security Director Teguh Wardoyo, Yosep Tutu, and Veronika Vonny, among others. (ANTARA)
