Book review to commemorate Mother's Day -

Voinews, Jakarta - The 95th anniversary of Mother's Day at the National Library was marked by a book review discussing Women's Empowerment. The momentum for equality and the role of women and mothers in development is visible in how to prepare the nation's superior generation

The 6th century BC Chinese philosopher, Confucius, stated that children's harmony, intelligence and intimacy require stimulation from the family.

“When the family is weak, the state is weak. Also, if the family is strong, the country is strong. "And children's motor intelligence comes from the family, in this case the role of the mother," explained Deputy for Library Resource Development Adin Bondar when opening a book review to commemorate Mother's Day, on Friday (22/12/2023).

As an educational space, the library is an open space, so the good practices carried out through the social inclusion-based library transformation program (TPBIS) have an impact on family economic growth.

According to a release received by Voice of Indonesia on Friday, The role of libraries in empowering and assisting women and mothers is an integrated movement so that women receive honor and recognition for themselves as actors in development.

The author of the book 'Women's Empowerment is a Praise for Wise Wives', Sisca Buniaty Manik, said that the initial idea for her to write the book began with stories and experiences from people around her who experienced violence and did not receive fair treatment from their partners.

“This book is cross-gender. "When the wife treats her well, the husband is obliged to give praise so that family harmony is created," said Sisca.

Women naturally help their husbands and the household, from managing finances, tidiness, to cleaning the house. Women are analogous to helpers who deserve praise.

“If women can be glorified, then that is something great. This book describes the ideal husband or wife too perfectly. "Even though in reality this is not always the case," said the Head of the Informatics Study Program from Bakrie University, Hoga Saragih, one of the book discussants.

Well, this book captures the ideal side of God's creatures who were created differently but whose position is equal. Eastern cultural societies often provide the perspective that men occupy high degrees.

Moreover, it is strengthened by the patriarchal understanding that has been passed down from generation to generation through the hands of women who have not received real education about equality, so it is wrong to instill this understanding in children.

“Mother is the first and foremost educator. If a mother's work at home were made into a professional job, how much would she be paid? "It's definitely priceless," concluded observer and activist for the protection of women and children, Imelda Berwanty Purba//VOI

Voinews, Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police (Polri) is planning to gradually move 30,878 personnel to the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara in East Kalimantan. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the transfer of Polri personnel will be carried out in four stages.

"In the first stage, we will relocate 1,667 personnel to IKN, then 9,484 personnel, followed by 9,685 personnel for the third stage, and lastly, 9,678 personnel for the fourth stage," he said at the groundbreaking for the construction of the Nusantara Special Resort Police station on Thursday.

He noted that 708 officers would be stationed at the special police office for the IKN area and have undergone an assessment at the East Kalimantan Regional Police.

"While waiting for the development process and determining the organizational structure, these personnel are already placed at the East Kalimantan Regional Police, and we have distributed them to the supporting police stations," Prabowo said.

The general ensured that the National Police would continue to monitor President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) policies, including for development of the IKN area.

"The National Police is committed to mobilizing all the resources we have to oversee all of the president's policies, especially overseeing the development of IKN Nusantara," he emphasized.

The groundbreaking was also attended by President Jokowi who stated that the construction will take about nine months to complete, with a budget of Rp160 billion (US$10.3 million) on 6,189 square meters of land in an area of approximately 12 hectares.

He expressed optimism that the existence of the Nusantara Special Resort police would genuinely improve services and protection for the people, strengthen law enforcement measures, as well as boost stability and security in Indonesia's future capital.

The president also reminded that the design of the police office should be adjusted to align with the green building concept//ANT-VOI

LOS ANGELES: California regulators on Tuesday (Dec 19) cleared the way for widespread use of advanced filtration and treatment facilities designed to convert sewage waste into pure drinking water that can be pumped directly into systems feeding millions of household taps.

Proven technologies capable of recycling wastewater for human consumption, a concept once derided by critics as "toilet to tap", have gained greater credence in recent years as water-conscious California faces worsening drought cycles from climate change.

More than a decade in the making, the regulations adopted by the State Water Resources Control Board represent a landmark in the quest to reclaim some of the hundreds of millions of gallons of waste discharge that flows out to sea unused each year, supporters say.

"Today heralds a new era of water reuse," Patricia Sinicropi, executive director of the recycling trade group WateReuse California, said in a statement.

A number of communities have for years been blending highly purified wastewater into aquifers and reservoirs before people can drink it, a practice known in the parlance of engineers and resource managers as "indirect potable reuse".

In the sprawling Orange County suburbs south of Los Angeles, home to Disneyland and upscale beach towns, much of the drinking supply for 2.5 million people comes from highly distilled waste that is used to recharge the groundwater basin and eventually is drawn back to the surface.

The 69-page document approved on Tuesday provides a legal and regulatory framework for "direct potable reuse", allowing the end-product of advanced purification to be fed straight into drinking water systems, without first making a stop in some kind of environmental buffer.

The foundation of the technology, used for more than a decade in Orange County, puts pre-treated waste discharge through intense microfiltration, reverse osmosis and disinfection by ultraviolet light and hydrogen peroxide.

The new regulations mandate an additional ozone disinfectant process and biological carbon filtration. Greater pathogen removal and stricter monitoring is also required.

Darrin Polhemus, deputy director of the state board's drinking water division, said it would likely take at least five years before the first direct potable reuse plant is operating.

Los Angeles and San Diego also have plans to develop direct potable recycling, as does the Santa Clara Valley Water District in the San Francisco Bay area.

Texas is the only US state to have previously approved direct potable recycling, with two small-scale systems that went online in 2014 to serve towns stricken by a drought-caused water emergency. Colorado also has developed relatively limited guidelines for such projects.
