Many literary works feature narratives or tales that have high moral educational value. The moral values contained in literary works aim to educate people to recognize ethical values, so as to create an order of human relations in society that is considered good, harmonious and beneficial (Kurniawan, 2009).
In Indonesia, one of the literary masterpieces which is full of beauty and contains good educational values is GURINDAM 12 wrote by Raja Ali Haji. This literary work is called "Gurindam 12" because it actually consists of 12 stanzas. Gurindam content is categorized as syi'al irsyadi or ditactic poetry because it contains advice and life instructions according to Islamic law (Sugiarto, 2015).
The original writing of this literary work uses Arabic letters. First published in 1854 in the Tijdschift van het Bataviaash magazine. Gurindam 12 was translated into Dutch by Elisa Netscher. The literary works have now become classic works that should be maintained and valued by all levels of society.
This phenomenal work is full of inter-nation or global moral messages, and cultures whose teaching values last across generations. Its eternal moral message can be said to be parallel to the masterpieces of world poets such as Shakespeare, Woody Guthrie, Elizabeth Bishop, and Christhoper Marlowe, whom Padgett (2000) calls as poets with timeless works of all time which can be continuously studied for their meaning in learning activities in the classroom. Mujiyanto (2014) emphasized that Gurindam 12 is a noble literary work like 'Serat Wedhatama' and 'Wulang Reh', by G.P.H. Mangkunegara IV.
In Riau, especially on Penyengat Island which is the birthplace of Gurindam 12, the process of preserving or passing on this valuable work is still ongoing from elementary school to university.
As a mainstream media, Voice of Indonesia contributes to disseminating information on the preservation of this noble literary work, both domestically and abroad through a video documentary that can be accessed via Voice of Indonesia's website and social media.
