Voice of Indonesia presents Let’s Speak Indonesian, a program that introduces the Indonesian vocabulary and guides you to speak in the language. Mari Berbahasa Indonesia or Let’s Speak Indonesian is a joint initiative of Voice of Indonesia and the Language Development Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.  Today’s topic is still about Lingkungan Rumah which means Neighborhood.

Read to the conversation entitled Sampai Berjumpa Lagi which means See You Again. This dialog is between Kevin and Boris. Boris is Kevin’s new neighbor. Boris delivers an expression to end a conversation.

Having listened to the conversation, now I am going to introduce some vocabulary and expressions related to the topic of the day.

In the dialog, you listen to a statement Sampai berjumpa lagi, Kevin (2x) which means See you again, Kevin. The expression sampai berjumpa lagi (2x) which means see you again is used as a leave-taking expression. It contains a hope that the two people who are talking, Boris dan Kevin, can meet again next time. For example, Sampai berjumpa lagi, Kevin (2x) which means See you again, Kevin. 

We can also use the other expressions such as sampai nanti (2x) which means see you later and sampai besok (2x) which means see you tomorrow. The two expressions can be used as leave-taking expressions. For example:

Boris    : Sampai nanti, Kevin (2x) which means See you later, Kevin

Kevin   : Sampai nanti (2x) which means See you later

Boris    : Sampai besok, Kevin (2x) which means See you tomorrow, Kevin

Kevin   : Sampai besok (2x) which means See you tomorrow

Indonesians rarely say selamat tinggal (2x) which means goodbye for leave-taking expression. They usually use expressions that show hope to meet again though they do not know if they will meet again or not, such as sampai berjumpa lagi (2x) which means see you again.
