VOINews, Jakarta: Indonesia has advocated for enhanced cooperation between ASEAN and Latin American nations to bolster their intellectual property (IP) offices through the judicious application of artificial intelligence (AI).
In a statement from her office received on Thursday, Min Usihen, the Intellectual Property Director General at Indonesia's Law and Human Rights Ministry, emphasized the importance of this collaboration. She noted that while AI offers numerous advantages, it also brings significant challenges to humanity.
Speaking at a session during the 65th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Member States in Switzerland on July 15, Usihen pointed out that AI is a product of swift technological advancements that deeply impact people's daily lives.
Usihen explained that the Law and Human Rights Ministry has already started promoting the use of AI to streamline the search for patent and brand information in the digital realm.
She expressed hope that the anticipated cooperation between ASEAN and Latin American IP offices on AI utilization would enable Indonesia to optimize AI for its business processes.
Supporting Indonesia's initiative for interregional collaboration, WIPO Director General Daren Tang remarked that synergy between IP offices in Southeast Asia and Latin America would yield mutual benefits.
The meeting also saw participation from William Meredith, Director of WIPO's IP Business Office Solutions Divisions, and Ulrike Till, Director of WIPO's IP and Frontier Technologies Division.
Both officials presented on WIPO's efforts to develop various AI-powered technology systems. They shared a positive outlook on the potential of AI to enhance IP-related business processes./Antara/VOI
