VOINews, Beijing: Six students from Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) in China, five of whom are majoring in Indonesian, have spent their holidays creating content that introduces Chinese culture and promotes China-Indonesia cultural exchange. The content, presented in Indonesian, is shared across various social media platforms to enhance mutual understanding between the two nations while allowing the students to practice their Indonesian language skills.
The first wave of content consists of four episodes, recorded in Bandung, Surabaya, and Beijing. The episodes filmed in Bandung and Surabaya were produced by BFSU students who had studied in these Indonesian cities, with full support from their Indonesian friends.
The Surabaya episode features a Mandarin language lecturer currently working in the city. In this video, he shares his insights on the enthusiasm of Indonesian youth for learning Mandarin, along with his experiences and advice on teaching Mandarin in Indonesia. He also discusses the promotion of China-Indonesia cultural exchange from his perspective.
The Bandung episode was recorded by Li Tianchang, a BFSU student, and his friend, Kanaya Saputri Sual, a Padjadjaran University student fluent in Mandarin. The video captures the impressions of Bandung residents regarding Chinese culture and China. Several local residents were randomly selected and interviewed about their views on Chinese culture, from Lontong Cap Go Meh to Barongsai, as well as the current economic cooperation between Indonesia and China.
In the other two episodes, viewers are taken on a virtual tour of several museums in China, offering a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture, particularly in the fields of gardening and cinema.
Cui Donghao, a BFSU student and one of the group members, emphasized the value of cultural promotion activities like this in bridging the friendship between China and Indonesia. He noted that these activities provide excellent opportunities for students to broaden their horizons and improve their language skills. Cui also expressed hope that the program would continue in the future.
The students’ videos have been shared on various social media platforms in China and Indonesia. Wang Dandan, an Indonesian language lecturer at BFSU and the group's leader, expressed optimism that similar content will continue to be well-received by audiences in both countries.
