VOINews, Jakarta: The Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Royal Malaysian Police (Polis Diraja Malaysia/PDRM) have agreed to conduct joint training and operations to combat drug trafficking. This collaboration was confirmed during a visit by the Malaysian delegation to Lido, Bogor, West Java, on Friday (Nov. 29).

Agus Irianto, Deputy for Legal Affairs and Cooperation at BNN, announced that the joint training will take place at the BNN Human Resources Development Center (PPSDM) in Lido. Simultaneously, joint operations will focus on border areas.

"This collaboration is expected to enhance both nations' efforts in combating drug trafficking and strengthen the capacity of law enforcement officers in each country," Agus said during the event, as reported in Jakarta on Saturday.

The visit, led by Commissioner Police Dato’ Seri Khaw Kok Chin of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) of PDRM, follows an earlier meeting in Kuala Lumpur in February 2024. Both sides agreed to bolster information exchange, rehabilitation programs, and the formulation of more effective drug control policies.

Agus highlighted that the Malaysian delegation's visit symbolizes the growing partnership between Indonesia and Malaysia in addressing narcotics challenges. He expressed hope that the collaboration would result in more effective strategies to counter the increasingly complex drug problem.

During the visit, Agus guided the Malaysian delegation through several key facilities at Lido. The tour began with a visit to the BNN Narcotics Laboratory, where the delegation observed state-of-the-art equipment used in narcotics research and testing.

The group then proceeded to the K9 Detection Unit, where they witnessed the drug-detection skills of BNN's trained sniffer dogs. These demonstrations showcased BNN's advanced methods and technologies for uncovering hidden drugs on people and in objects.

The sniffer dog demonstration proved to be a highlight of the visit, emphasizing the innovative tools and techniques employed by BNN to combat narcotics distribution effectively.

The visit concluded with a presentation on PPSDM BNN RI, which serves as a training hub for both internal BNN personnel and external stakeholders. The center plays a pivotal role in building the skills and expertise necessary for combating drug trafficking and abuse.

The joint initiatives, rooted in shared commitment and strategic collaboration, are seen as crucial steps toward tackling the region's drug problem and enhancing cross-border enforcement./ANTARA/VOI
