President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave a special message to the Governor of Riau Syamsuar and Deputy Governor Edy Nasution who was newly appointed at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (20/2) morning.

"We want to keep the spirit of this country so that in the future there will be no more highly-affected forest and land fires, especially the occurrence of smoke which disrupts both school children and our lives, and of course also related to aviation. We hope this will hopefully not happen again, "President Jokowi said as Riau Governor Syamsuar told reporters after his inauguration.

Syamsuar stressed that President Jokowi had a very big concern about forest and land fires, because Riau in particular is directly adjacent to Singapore and Malaysia.

Regarding the message, Governor Syamsuar stressed that the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Riau will conduct a socialization of prevention of forest fires, because Riau also has several dry seasons now.
