Indonesia to Attend the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council

Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi is scheduled to attend the 40th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland from 25 to 28 February, 2019. The meeting itself is scheduled to be held on February 25 to March 22. To reporters on Thursday in Jakarta, Director of Human Rights of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Achsanul Habib said that Indonesia's participation is in the context of conveying Indonesia's main point of view regarding strengthening human rights values ​​at the multilateral level as well as achievements and progress at national and regional levels. According to Achsanul Habib, in the UN Human Rights Council Session, Indonesia will put forward the issue of protecting human rights in line with national interests.

“The presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Human Rights Council Session is a form of Indonesia's commitment in the promotion and protection of human rights values. Of course what we will propose is that which is in harmony with national interests, Indonesia's interests,” said Achsanul Habib.

Achsanul Habib explained some of the agendas that will be discussed in Indonesia's participation in the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council including the issue of Palestine, Myanmar, issue of civil rights, economic and socio-cultural rights and the rights of vulnerable groups, women's empowerment, child protection and disability. In addition to attending the 40th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, Indonesia will also hold a number of bilateral meetings at the Minister of Foreign Affairs level. At least 15 bilateral meetings are scheduled to be held by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi. The meeting will discuss various issues of mutual interest at the international level including various specific issues in Indonesia's bilateral relations with partner countries. (VOI/ANDY/AHM)
