Indonesia has reaffirmed its important position in coping with the impact of climate change.
The Indonesian commitment has been declared in negotiations in the Conference on climate change (COP24) in Katowice, Poland, December 2-14, 2018.
Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar, leads the Indonesian delegation to the conference. It is estimated that around 45,000 delegates from 197 countries attended the United Nations Session discussing status and efforts to control the impact of climate change in the world.
The Indonesian delegation is ready not only for negotiation but also for "soft diplomacy" that Indonesia has made much progress in the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
The Paris Agreement is implemented in Indonesia through cooperation of all concerned, Siti Nurbaya Bakar said.
"This is something that makes us proud. I am optimistic we could well handle environmental works according to the rule book, international convention and more on the rule of the 1945 Constitution. We just work well," she said.
The Indonesian Government is consistent with its commitment to bring down the green house gas emission and the program of adaptation to climate change as mentioned in the document of Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) as a product of the Paris Agreement.
Indonesia also has ratified the Paris Agreement . Through NDC, Indonesia is committed by itself to reducing Green House gas emission by 29 percent in 2030 and with international cooperation by 41 percent.
"Data in 2016, Indonesia succeeded in reducing gas emission by 8.7 percent through various sectors. In 2017, the reduction already reached 16 percent," Siti Nurbaya said.
In reaching the 29 percent target Indonesia has good modality in fulfilling NDC commitment, she said. (ANTARA)
Indonesia and Cambodia have agreed to intensify cooperation for ASEAN`s unity and centrality during the 4th Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation between Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and her Cambodian counterpart Prak Sokhonn in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to Marsudi, the governments of the two countries have agreed to cooperate to ensure that Southeast Asia remained a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region.
Meanwhile, Sokhonn conveyed Cambodian government`s support for the Indo-Pacific concept promoted by Indonesia by prioritizing ASEAN unity and centrality.
"We reaffirm Cambodia`s support for the Indo-Pacific concept initiated by Indonesia, and we also reaffirm the importance of ASEAN`s centrality," he remarked.
In response, Marsudi expressed her appreciation for the support.
"Indonesia greatly appreciates Cambodia`s support in developing the Indo-Pacific concept, which encourages the principles of openness, inclusiveness, transparency, and respect for international law and ASEAN centrality," she explained.
Indonesia has been promoting the development of Indo-Pacific concept that underlines several key principles, including cooperation, inclusiveness, transparency, openness, and respect for international law.
The Indonesian government also refers to three main areas of cooperation under Indo-Pacific concept, namely maritime cooperation in tackling crimes in the sea, cooperation in connectivity to spur economic growth, and cooperation in realizing sustainable development through the achievement of inclusive Sustainable Development Goals. Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Indonesia Muhammad Abdullah AI Gaffli said the relationship between the UAE and Indonesia is in the principle of cooperation and mutual respect. Meanwhile, UAE investment in Indonesia reached 3 billion US dollars and is expected to increase from 5 to 6 billion US dollars until 2020. Radio Republik Indonesia collaborates with organizing committee of Lomba Cipta Lagu Pop Daerah Nusantara 2018 (Nusantara Regional Pop Song Writing Competition 2018) in organizing Nusantara Regional Pop Song Writing Competition 2018. The Selection has been held from August to November 2018. This competition has been held for the sixth time since 2012. After a press conference at RRI’s Tri Prasetya Gallery, Monday (3/12), Chairman of the Nusantara Regional Pop Song Writing Competition 2018, Sapta Nirwandar, said that this activity was also organized to explore the creative potential of regional musicians and to increase people's love for folk songs.
"Our idealistic target is not only to preserve it, but also we develop the values of the regional language. As we have seen earlier, there are also some regional languages that have already become extinct, so we are trying to revive our love," said Sapta Nirwandar.
Sapta Nirwandar further said that efforts are needed to revive the community, especially among teenagers to love and be proud of regional songs through promotion and various regional song competitions. Sapta added, to make regional songs to be easily enjoyed by the millennial generation, requires good packaging and arrangements so that folk songs become interesting to listen to and to look at and can have a positive impact on the public to love the folk songs. The Nusantara Regional Pop Song Writing Competition 2018 was participated in by 108 songs. Of the 108 songs, 33 regional pop songs were selected in the preliminary round and 10 songs are advancing to the final round.
