State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.
There have been no signs of BF.7 cases increasing in Indonesia following the detection of the Omicron sub-variant in several patients, according to the Health Ministry.
"We are not too worried because the variant that has dominated since October 2022 is XBB. There have been no signs of BF.7 cases increasing," chief of the communication and public service bureau of the Health Ministry Siti Nadia Tarmizi said in Jakarta on Thursday.
The BF.7 sub-variant, which triggered a COVID-19 spike in several countries, including China, causes relatively mild symptoms, she added.
All BF.7 patients in Indonesia have recovered after conducting self-isolation. The sub-variant was first detected in the country in October 2022.
"All the patients have recovered,” Tarmizi said.
The number of BF.7 cases detected in Indonesia based on genomic surveillance is relatively small at 15, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin informed at the Harapan Kita Women and Children Hospital in Jakarta on Thursday.
"The cycle of BA.5 sub-variant in Indonesia is over, and so is BA.275 sub-variant. Only BF.7 sub-variant is left. We have seen it in Indonesia. The increase is very small and (the number of BF.7 cases) is 15,” he said.
Two BF.7 patients from Jakarta, aged 30–40 years, showed mild symptoms and conducted self-isolation at home. The two patients, who had no overseas travel history, have recovered.
The minister called upon the public to continue to comply with the health protocols and take COVID-19 vaccination at a nearby health service center as part of efforts to prevent severe disease upon coronavirus infection.
"Up till now, the vaccine is still free. Hurry up to get the booster (dose)," he said. (antaranews)
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has urged port managers to establish green and smart ports that are sustainable and environmentally friendly.
“Green and smart port is not only a (development) concept, but a necessity to be built consistently," he remarked at the “2022 Green Port Award” themed “Indonesia Towards the Implementation of Sustainable World-Class Ports.”
The event was held by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment here on Wednesday.
According to the minister, port activities have a direct impact on the environment, for instance, if there is an oil spill, it can pollute the environment. Hence, port managers need to be prepared to mitigate the impact of such activities.
The Transportation Ministry is committed to developing smart and green ports across Indonesia by issuing policies to ensure port managers maintain environmental sustainability at ports, Sumadi said.
It is hoped that the “2022 Green Port Award” will motivate port managers and other stakeholders in the shipping sector to make concrete efforts and show their commitment to protecting the environment and improving their business performance, he added.
The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment is targeting to make 149 ports in Indonesia green and smart by 2024.
Currently, there are 14 ports that have implemented the green and smart port concept.
On Wednesday, the “2022 Green Port Award” was bestowed to a number of harbors managed by state-owned enterprises, including PT Petrokimia Gresik’s Self-Use Terminal (TUKS), PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur’s Special Terminal, and PT Pelindo Sub Regional Bali-Nusa Tenggara’s Benoa Harbor.
PT Pelindo Regional 3’s Tenau Kupang Port, PT Pelindo Container Terminal’s Semarang Container Terminal, PT Pelindo Regional 2’s Banten Ciwandan Port, and PT Pelindo Regional 2’s Pontianak Kijing Terminal also received the award.
The award was also presented to PT Pelindo Container Terminal’s Teluk Lamong Terminal, Indonesia Port Corporation’s (IPC’s) Tanjung Priok Container Terminal, and PT Krakatau Bandar Samudera’s Public Terminal. (Antaranews)
The Indonesia Anti-Doping Organization (IADO) has reported that Indonesian athletes have been found free of doping based on the testing of 548 samples in 2022.
According to an IADO press release issued on Wednesday, the samples consisted of 293 samples taken during ICT (in-competition testing) and 276 samples taken during OOCT (out-of-competition testing), for example, from athletes at National Training Centers.
The athletes whose samples were taken were elite athletes from the RTP (registered testing pool) of IADO, which is directly connected to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Currently, there are several samples that are still being analyzed by the anti-doping laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand. Those samples were taken from sports events in mid-December 2022.
In October 2022, IADO announced doping sanctions against six athletes. However, they were based on doping control carried out in late 2021.
IADO general chairperson Gatot S. Dewa Broto said that zero cases of doping are not the only benchmark for WADA's assessment of a country's national anti-doping organization (NADO). The main indicators of WADA's assessment of each NADO lie in organizational governance and compliance with the WADA Code.
Organizational governance is one of the essential aspects that must be improved by IADO. In early 2022, IADO was faced with a scandal related to the governance of an anti-doping organization that did not comply with WADA standards.
The sanction was detrimental to Indonesia because the country lost its rights at international-scale events, which include a ban on flying its national flag at the 2020 Thomas Cup.
To this end, IADO is continuing to strive to become a professional anti-doping organization. IADO is also committed to increasing its performance as quickly and as well as possible, including by establishing intensive communication with WADA, the Southeast Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organization (SEARADO), and NADOs from other countries. Incentive support, both fiscal and non-fiscal, is needed to accelerate the development of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, according to a member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) Dyah Roro Esti.
"The acceleration of the electric vehicle ecosystem is one of the main things for Indonesia for reducing total carbon emissions as well as for achieving the net-zero emission (NZE) target," she said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
According to her, electric vehicles have been regulated through several regulations, including Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 regarding the acceleration of the Battery-Based Electric Vehicle Program.
As per the regulation, the provision of incentives is key for the development of the EV ecosystem in the country, she added.
She affirmed that her side fully supports the government's efforts to formulate a policy regarding the provision of incentives for EVs to accelerate the development of the EV ecosystem in Indonesia.
Currently, the government is designing a policy regarding an incentive mechanism for people who purchase EVs, with a total incentive value of Rp5 trillion.
Through the Ministry of Industry, the incentive will be distributed to the community via four schemes: Rp80 million will be provided to people buying electric cars, Rp40 million to those purchasing hybrid-based electric cars, Rp8 million for two-wheeled vehicles, and Rp5 million for motorcycles that are converted into electric motorcycles.
"Considering that the majority of Indonesians are not interested in electric vehicles, which are basically more environmentally friendly, incentives from the government are needed. Meanwhile, the price of electric cars is now 30 percent more expensive than conventional cars," the legislator explained.
In addition, she noted that the use of EVs could help save costs by four times compared to gasoline cars.
"In terms of fuel consumption, the use of electric vehicles can potentially reduce fuel imports by up to 30 million barrels per year, which is very good for reducing our dependence on fossil energy and emission reduction," she explained. (Antaranews)
The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) is ready to oversee the five priority agendas of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin’s administration in 2023.
The five priority agendas are downstreaming and industrializing natural resources; optimizing clean energy sources and enhancing the green economy; increasing legal, social, political, and economic protection for the people; continuing the digitization of the economy so that Indonesian micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) can immediately upgrade their class; and ensuring the sustainable development of the new capital (IKN) Nusantara and the National Strategic Program.
"KSP will oversee and ensure that the priority agenda and policies of the President are not only sent, but (seep) properly down to the lower levels," the head of KSP, Moeldoko, said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
In 2022, the KSP carried out the tasks assigned by the President, namely overseeing national priority programs and the national strategic program (PSN), he informed.
Even though facing a rather difficult situation in 2021–2022, the KSP managed to work well.
"I have also received an order to map out the conditions of the many national strategic programs," he said.
Moeldoko further said that in 2023, the world is expected to face situations full of turmoil, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity, which will move dynamically and be difficult to predict.
By understanding these complex conditions, Indonesia is expected to formulate an appropriate crisis management strategy to ensure that all goals can be achieved, he added.
Despite the geopolitical conflicts and crises that are continuing to haunt the world, the five big national agendas must continue to be pursued to achieve the Advanced Indonesia goal, President Widodo emphasized earlier.
The agendas are aimed at developing an inclusive, fair, and sustainable Indonesia, the President said during the annual session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the joint session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the Parliamentary Complex here on August 16, 2022.
"The nation's grand agenda must not stop. Great efforts must continue to be made. There are at least five big agendas that I have emphasized earlier," he added.
The first of the five big agendas involves the downstreaming and industrialization of natural resources.
The President informed that the downstreaming of the nickel industry led to an 18-fold increase in the exports of iron and steel. In addition to tax revenue, the country's foreign exchange is expected to rise so the rupiah exchange rate will remain stable.
According to Widodo, Indonesia should build an integrated ecosystem for the industry that will support the development of the global green economy ecosystem.
The second agenda involves the optimization of green energy sources and lays emphasis on improving the green economy.
As for the third agenda, Widodo called for continuing efforts to strengthen the community's legal, social, political, and economic protection.
He emphasized that the realization of civil rights and democratic practices as well as the political rights of women and the rights of marginalized communities must be guaranteed.
The fourth agenda aims to continuously support MSMEs to level up. The government has continued to boost economic digitalization to empower MSMEs, thereby leading to the development of 2 decacorn companies and 9 unicorn companies, he said.
According to the President, at least 19 million MSMEs have entered the digital ecosystem, and the figure is targeted to reach 30 million by 2024.
The fifth agenda highlighted by the President is that the construction of the national capital of Nusantara (IKN) must not stall.
"The IKN is not only for state civil apparatus but also a city of innovators and entrepreneurs. The city will not only house government offices, but it will also become a new economic driving force. It will not only be an ordinary city but it will be a forest city with world-class education and health services," he said. (antaranews)
Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali chaired a virtual coordination meeting with 20 ministries and institutions here on Tuesday on Indonesia’s preparations for hosting the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
He said that to bolster the preparations for the event, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has issued Presidential Instruction Number 12 of 2022 concerning support for the implementation of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
In addition, the President has issued Presidential Decree Number 22 of 2022 regarding the national organizing committee for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The minister informed that based on the decree, he will act as the chair of the Indonesia FIFA U-20 World Cup Organizing Committee (INAFOC), while the members of the committee will be drawn from several institutions, ministries, provincial governments, as well as local governments.
"Each ministry and institution has been asked to send (their) representatives to join the committee, thus, the coordination will be easier since all of this work will be directly guided by FIFA -- all work will refer to FIFA rules,” he said, according to information posted on the website of the Youth and Sports Ministry.
Furthermore, the decree has also made the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry in charge of infrastructure as well as chairperson of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Mochamad Iriawan, as the person in charge of the local organizing committee (LOC) of the cup.
Amali said that outside of the preparations made by the PUPR Ministry, the funding for the preparations for the tournament will be included in the budget implementation list (DIPA) of the Youth and Sports Ministry.
"Later, when the committee is complete, we will discuss (the preparations) per sector,” he stated.
Initially, the tournament was planned to be held in 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was postponed to 2023, while Indonesia remained as its host.
The minister said that when Indonesia made the bid to host the event in 2019, FIFA asked for a commitment from all levels of government in Indonesia, including the head of state, related ministers, governors, and heads of districts/mayors.
In response, President Widodo sent a direct letter, accompanied by a government guarantee signed by several ministers, to the president of FIFA Gianni Infantino conveying Indonesia’s willingness to host the tournament, Amali added.
There will be six main venues for the tournament, including Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (Jakarta), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung district, West Java province), and Manahan Stadium (Solo city, Central Java province).
Furthermore, the other stadiums comprise Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (Surabaya city, East Java province), Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium (Palembang city, South Sumatra province), and Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium (Gianyar district, Bali province). (antaranews)
Indonesia has a strong foundation to become an industrialized country, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said on Tuesday.
"This is a small part of a greater achievement. All can be achieved through good cooperation among all stakeholders for the benefit of a better industry and Indonesia," he remarked.
In 2020, the growth of non-oil/non-gas manufacturing industry came under pressure and contracted 2.52 percent due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he noted.
Through various strategic policies to accelerate the national economic recovery, the manufacturing industry in the country continued to revive, he said.
"The performance returned to bullish in 2021, with the growth rate of 3.67 percent. The positive trend continued in 2022, as reflected by the first-quarter growth of 5.75 percent, second-quarter growth of 4.33 percent, and third-quarter growth of 4.88 percent,” he said.
The good achievement proves that the government managed to maintain industrial growth amid the current upheaval and challenge, he added.
The non-oil/non-gas manufacturing industry contributed 16.10 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2022, he said.
The industrial contribution was the highest among other economic sectors, he added.
"This is our joint task to increase industrial performance so we can move to an industrialized nation (status)," he said. (Antaranews)
President Joko Widodo on Monday urged Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi to be careful while allotting the quota of flights to foreign and domestic airlines despite the 84-percent spike in demand. "There is a request for 166 slots, or an 84-percent development. However, the President gave the directive that even if there are so many requests, do it carefully," he informed after a meeting at the Presidential Palace here on Monday.
President Widodo instructed the minister to determine the productivity that could be generated by each additional flight slot.
"If it's not efficient, don't give it too much of a chance," he noted.
The ministry will also need to adjust to some airports if they add flight slots, he said. For instance, Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, needs to be improved to eliminate flight delays and address increased passenger capacity, among others.
"We will further coordinate on Mr. President's directives. Thus, our conclusion in the President's briefing is, during this transition from pandemic to endemic, we must do well. That our services at international airports must be good," the minister said.
Many of the requests for additional slots have come from airlines from Qatar, Turkey, the Philippines, and other foreign flights.
"From overseas, Singapore Airlines is also asking for an increase (in slots)," he said.
A similar inquiry for domestic flights has been made by Air Asia and others.
According to the Transportation Ministry, the recovery rate for domestic flights in 2022 has reached 71 percent. At Soekarno Hatta Airport, the number has gone up as much as 90 percent.
"We compare between current flights to 2019. Basically, domestic flights have achieved a recovery rate of 71 percent. This is a pretty good number. Even at Soekarno Hatta Airport, it has reached 90 percent," he remarked.
He revealed that the recovery rate for foreign flights in 2022 reached 33 percent. (Antaranews)
The government has predicted that the number of domestic and foreign tourist trips to some tourist destinations in Indonesia during the Christmas and New Year holidays would reach up to 800 million.
The government is optimistic that the number of domestic tourist trips will reach 703 million and foreign tourist trips 5.3 million at least, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno informed.
"Hopefully, this tourist travel (figure) will exceed 800 million, and this 800 million figure means above the upper limit, or the optimistic target of 703 million travels of domestic tourists," he said at the Presidential Palace Complex here on Monday.
The government is optimistic that the target can be achieved because the number of searches for tourism activities in Indonesia has already exceeded 2.8 billion, higher than for Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
Uno said that tourist trips during the Christmas holidays and ahead of the New Year have so far run smoothly, with their number reaching 44–45 million.
The government will still carry out monitoring next week to determine the tourist dynamic during the holidays.
President Joko Widodo has instructed the Transportation Minister to add flight slots to accommodate the tourists, whose number is expected to increase as the end of the year draws near.
Minister Uno said that additional flight slots would be added at some major airports, such as those in Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Kualanamu, as well as tourist destinations.
"Meanwhile, (additional flights will be scheduled) for tourist destinations (such as) Wakatobi, Morotai and additional flights to Lake Toba and Likupang, North Sulawesi," the minister added.
The three destinations with the highest number of tourist visits are Bali, Yogyakarta, and Bandung.
The most foreign tourists were from Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia. (Antaranews)
