PLN Gradually Recovers Electricity Supply (0)
State-owned electricity firm PT PLN has recovered electric power to Balaraja Extra High Voltage substation in Banten Province, and furthermore it will be channeled to Suralaya steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) to gradually recover its operation to reach its capacity of 2800 MW of electricity.
In addition, power supply from Gandul Extra High Voltage substations in Depok, West Java Province, will be channeled to Muara Karang gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) to supply electricity to the Indonesian capital city, Jakarta.
Acting President Director of PLN Sripeni Inten Cahyani said here on Sunday that the power supply to Jakarta was expected to recover within three hours.
"We apologize for the inconvenience today, and currently all efforts have been made to recover the Java-Bali power system, especially in the area of West Java, Banten, and Jakarta," Cahyani said.
The company has focused on power supply to PLTGU Muara Karang and PLTGU Priok to recover the system in the capital city.
Previously, PLN has recovered the operation of hydro-generated power plant (PLTA) Saguling and PLTA Cirata which are functioned as power stabilizer, and, at the same time, supply the electricity to PLTU Suralaya through Cibinong, Depok, Gandul, Lengkok, Balaraja and Suralaya extra high voltage substations.
PLTU Suralaya is expected to return to its normal operation within six hours to normalize power system in West Java and Banten.
Blackout that affected thousands of homes and public facilities in West Java, Jakarta, and Banten was caused by several troubles in the extra high voltage 500 kV transmission of Ungaran - Pemalang.
"PLN has taken its best efforts and will have evaluation to prevent recurrence of today's incident," Cahyani said.

Indonesia Condemns Demolition of Palestinian Homes in Jerusalem
Written by Wenny ZuliantiStrongly condemning Israel for demolishing Palestinian homes in Sur Bahir, East Jerusalem, Palestine, Indonesia on Wednesday, demanded that the illegal action be immediately stopped.
"Indonesia demands such action be put to an immediate halt, as it is in violation of International Laws and UNSC resolutions," the statement from the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
"The development of illegal settlements by Israel and the tunnel construction to Al-Haram al-Sharif are a de facto annexation which will further threaten the peace process," the statement added.
Aljazeera reported that hundreds of Israeli troops with bulldozers tore down homes in the Palestinian village of Sur Baher despite local protests and international criticism.
Residents of the village's Wadi al-Hummus neighborhood told local media Monday that 16 residential buildings with about 100 apartments were being demolished.
Al Jazeera's Rob Matheson, reporting from the demolition area, said the Israeli action began at 7:15 a.m. local time (04:15 GMT).
"We heard very loud bangs coming from a building right next door to where we are now. It was from a large mechanical digger that was ripping off part of the roof of a building that was home up until this morning to two families," he said.
"The father of one of the families has been sitting on a chair in the street watching his home being torn apart," he added.
The sprawling village of Sur Baher straddles the line between occupied East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank. It was captured and occupied by Israel in the 1967 war.
Israeli forces levelled a building in the West Bank and destroyed 50 percent of a home belonging to a Palestinian family of 10 on the East Jerusalem side, Matheson said.
"They took the family away - we heard screaming and shouting. And within two hours, 50 percent of the building has been destroyed."
The demolitions marked a "very somber and sad day" for Palestinian residents, he said.

President Jokowi, Sheikh Mohamed plant resin tree at Bogor Palace
Written by Wenny ZuliantiPresident Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan planted a resin tree (Agathis dammara (Lamb.) Rich) in the yard of the Bogor Presidential Palace, Wednesday.
The duo shoveled down soil after planting a meter-long resin tree and watered the spot while engaged in conversation.
The tree planting was conducted as part of the series of activities during His Royal Highness' visit to Indonesia.
President Jokowi welcomed Sheikh Nahyan upon his arrival at Jakarta's Soekarno Hatta International Airport. The latter arrived aboard a Boeing 777 jet at around 8:51 a.m. local time.
Jokowi was accompanied by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan.
Discussions are scheduled for several cooperation schemes, as Minister Jonan affirmed that three partnership pacts will be signed during His Royal Highness' visit comprising the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, one of Pertamina's six megaprojects; cooperation for expansion of the petrochemical industry with PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical; and partnership with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia Maspion in Surabaya, East Java.
The total investment from all three partnerships amounts to US$9 billion.
The Trade Ministry's data indicated a deficit in Indonesia's trade balance with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since 2017.
Up until the first semester of 2019, the deficit was clocked at $287 million, owing to the fact that the UAE's imports to Indonesia had reached $882.5 million, while Indonesia's exports were recorded at a mere $594.4 million.

Education Ministry Presents Learning House to ASEAN Countries
Written by Ani HasanahThe Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) presented a learning house digital platform during a conference session of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Council in Selangor, Malaysia, Tuesday, July 23, 2019. A learning house, also known as Rumah Belajar, is a learning portal prepared by the ministry and contains more than 12,934 items in the form of study materials.
"With Rumah Belajar, everyone can access learning content. It can also be a media to share learning content with other countries," Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education and Culture Didik Suhardi said.
The SEAMEO Council meeting was attended by ministers and high officials of education ministries from member countries.
With Rumah Belajar, everyone can study anywhere, anytime, and with everyone. It can be accessed through applications or sites. In the application, there are at least 40,000 items of study materials in the form of videos, presentations, audio, and question banks.
In Indonesia, Rumah Belajar has been accessed by 24.6 million users. It is targeting an increase in the number of visitors to 50 million in a short time.
The ministry would make learning content on Rumah Belajar available in an English version as well. It is expected to attract more children, especially from ASEAN member countries.
The 50th SEAMEO Council Conference was held in Selangor, Malaysia, July 22 to 25. The SEAMEO consists of 10 member states of ASEAN and Timor Leste.

Wiranto-Xanana Sign Agreement to Complete Land Border Issues
Written by Ani HasanahIndonesia's Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto and Minister of Planning and Strategic Investment of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste Xanana Gusmao signed an agreement on unresolved segments of land boundaries.
In a meeting that lasted nearly 30 minutes in Jakarta on Monday, Xanana also acted as chairman of the negotiations on the land boundaries between Indonesia and Timor Leste. The Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi witnessed the signing of the agreement. "I say that all land boundary negotiations are in principle complete. Next, we will continue the maritime boundary negotiations," Wiranto explained.
With the completion of the agreement, a senior officer consultation (SOC) would be followed up in the second addendum, the 2005 border agreement between Indonesia and Timor Leste, Wiranto stated.
Meanwhile, on behalf of East Timor, Xanana Gusmao expressed his gratitude to Wiranto and Marsudi.
"In principle, we already have an agreement on the land boundaries. Brotherhood between two countries tomorrow will be better," Xanana said.
The two borders between Indonesia and Timor Leste are Noel Besi-Citrana and Bidjael Sunan-Oben.
The border of Noel Besi-Citrana is an area in Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, which is directly adjacent to Oecusse-Ambeno, a part of the territory of Timor Leste, while Bidjael Sunan-Oben is an area located in Manusasi, Timor Tengah Utara District (TTU). (ANTARA)

Indonesia Makes Great Efforts to Eradicate Illegal Fishing: Minister
Written by Ani HasanahIndonesia has made a great effort to eradicate illegal fishing, indicated by the success of its lobbying to increase global awareness about illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. "Indonesia is very advanced (related to eradicating illegal fishing)," Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister, Susi Pudjiastuti, said in Jakarta on Monday.
Pudjiastuti opined that Indonesia had managed to encourage the G20 Summit Forum to recognize IUU Fishing as a crime that must be taken seriously.
The Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries also emphasized the importance of a commitment from various parties.
Susi revealed that one way to achieve this commitment was by inviting other countries to share their Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) data.
Previously, the Indonesian Marine Scholarship Association (Iskindo) appreciated the agreement during the G20 Forum regarding Indonesia's initiative and leadership in eradicating the practice of IUU fishing or illegal fishing.
"This agreement will be of concern to the G20 countries in providing support for efforts to reduce the practice of IUU around the world, although the agreement is not binding," Iskindo's chairman, Moh Abdi Suhufan, said.
In the G20 forum, which took place in Osaka, Japan, on June 28 and 29, 2019, leaders of the G20 countries committed to tackling IUU fishing activities globally.
Through this success, the Iskindo gave a token of appreciation to the Indonesian delegation at the meeting.
With such an agreement, he continued, the IUU issue would be of concern to the G20 countries within the framework of global cooperation.
"We appreciate the Indonesian government which has consistently been combating IUU fishing activities and has opened the eyes of the world to the mode, crime, impact, and methods of eradicating IUU fishing activities through a legal approach," Suhufan emphasized. (ANTARA)

Minister Asks Plastic Producers to Join Fight against Marine Debris
Written by Ani HasanahMaritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti has asked all companies that produce plastic products to help clean up seas and oceans from plastic debris.
Plastic companies should join the fight against marine plastic debris, so far carried out only by the public, the minister said in Jakarta on Sunday (21/07/2019) after attending a plastic waste campaign dubbed "Plastic Debris Parade" held at The Aspiration Park.
Indonesia is the world's second-largest contributor of marine plastic debris and this could threaten the country's fish exports, she remarked.
"If it is not (cleaned up), there will be more plastics than fish in the ocean by 2040," she added.
"Whereas Indonesia is the world's second-largest fish exporter to Europe, and fourth largest fish exporter to the world," she noted.
She estimated that 70 percent of plastic debris would likely to enter Indonesian waters, given the fact that 71 percent of the country's territorial waters.
"We need fish, we need beautiful seas. Fish is for food. Fish is for our fishery industry. In the meantime, we also need to eat to make us smart and to make us healthy," Susi Pudjiastuti said.
She pledged to continue campaigning against plastic waste and to improve public awareness.
"We continue to organize activities to appreciate seas and love seas, by campaigning on the danger of plastic debris. In several fish markets, single-use plastic is no longer there," she explained.
Indonesia produces plastic waste amounting to 64 million tons annually, and of the total production, 32 million of them are plastic debris polluting seas and oceans, according to data of the Indonesian Plastic Industry Association (INAPLAS) and the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS).
Ten billion single-use plastic bags or 85 thousand tons of plastic bags pollute the environment every year, according to the same sources.
Earlier, Minister Susi Pudjiastuti called on Indonesians to curtail the production of plastic waste, as it can degrade the environmental quality, especially in oceans and rivers.
"The efforts to reduce it start from us, by not using, producing, or accepting plastic waste," Susi noted in a statement recently.
The minister urged the public to use bags not made of plastic that can be reused multiple times. (ANTARA)

North Maluku Earthquake Claims Two Lives, Displaces 1,104 People
Written by Ani HasanahA magnitude-7.2 earthquake that hit South Halmahera District, North Maluku Province, on Sunday evening, claimed two lives and displaced 1,104 people.
"The two fatalities are respectively, Aisyah, 51, from Gane Luar, and Halimah from Papaceda Village, Gane Barat Sub-district," Ali Yau, secretary of the North Maluku Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD), stated in Ternate, North Maluku, on Monday.
The displaced people are being accommodated at nine locations in Gane Barat, Gane Timur, and Bacan Timur.
Yau noted that his office had deployed personnel to evaluate the condition in several villages in Gane Barat after the powerful earthquake struck.
The Ternate military command 152/Babullah had also deployed a platoon of personnel to secure South Halmahera.
In Lemo-Lemo Village, 300 people were displaced, as their homes collapsed following the tremor.
In Ranga-Ranga, 800 villagers are seeking refuge in a hilly area over fears of an ensuing tsunami.
In the Nyonyifi coastal village, several houses and small piers incurred serious damage, though no casualties were reported.
The earthquake, measuring 7.2 on the Richter Scale, rocked North Maluku, on Sunday at 6:28 p.m. local time, forcing local residents to flee their homes in panic. The tremor did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.
The quake's epicenter was located at 0.59-degree southern latitude and 128.06-degree eastern longitude, some 62 km northeast of Labuha, North Maluku, and at a depth of 10 km below sea level, according to information on the website of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Sunday.
Residents of the Labuha coastal area, the capital of South Halmahera District, immediately headed to higher ground once the tremor occurred, as they feared a tsunami.
Kustoro, head of the Ternate meteorology, climatology, and geophysics office, noted that the earthquake did not have the potential to trigger a consequent tsunami.
Labuha's residents felt the tremor of modified mercalli intensity (MMI) IV-V. The residents of Ternate, Tidore Islands, Central Halmahera, Ambon in Maluku Province, and also Bitung, North Sulawesi, felt the earthquake. (ANTARA)

President Jokowi Requests Bunaken National Park to be Cared for and Maintained

Ratification of the RI-Iran MLA Agreement and Extradition Agreement
Written by"The Indonesia-Iran Mutual Legal Assistance and Extradition Agreement is expected to become the legal basis of the two countries in increasing the effectiveness of cooperation in preventing and combating organized transnational crime," said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, A.M. Fachir, representing the Government at the DPR RI Plenary Meeting on the discussion of the Ratification Bill on the RI-Iran MLA Agreement and the Draft Bill for Ratifying the Republic of Indonesia Extradition Agreement at the DPR on July 4, 2019
Both bills are approved by plenary to be passed into law. Furthermore AM Fachir underlined that the cooperation between the two countries based on the two Agreements still pays attention to the general principles of international law which focus on the principle of respecting state sovereignty and legal sovereignty, equality and mutual benefit.
Both agreements were signed in Tehran, Iran on December 14, 2016.
MLA agreements include search, blocking, confiscation, and seizure of proceeds of crime. While the Extradition Agreement regulates the cooperation in the search and repatriation of fugitives which includes investigations, prosecutions and examinations in court proceedings or other legal processes. The Government aims to develop tourism in North Sulawesi to boost economic growth in the region, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
“The central government provides support in road development, coastal area development, and in expanding airport terminal to accommodate six million passengers, from the existing capacity of two million passengers,” President Jokowi said in his remarks during distribution of land certificates at Graha Bumi Beringin, Manado, North Sulawesi, Thursday (4/7).
The President added that the Government has decided to start the terminal construction in Sam Ratulangi Airport in September this year and is expected to complete the project in August 2020. The Government, he added, has also decided to extend the runway so that large aircraft could land in Manado.
President Jokowi went on to say that the Government will also redevelop the plaza at the coastal area to attract more visitors.
He further said that the residents of North Sulawesi should keep maintaining their hospitality, as well as maintaining cleanliness at restaurants, food stalls, and toilets in order to develop tourism in the region, including in Bunaken, Likupang, and Lembeh island.
He added that the construction of various infrastructure facilities in the regions is expensive, but it will generate income and foreign exchange from tourists.
“We carefully calculate every state expenditure and revenue,” President Jokowi concluded.
