Presidential spokesman Fadjroel Rachman said that President Joko Widodo wants to give an Indonesian-centric legacy by the end of his administration in 2024.
"The president wants to provide a legacy. Including a fairly dispersed Indonesia," said Fadjroel at the One Year Reflection of Jokowi-Amin's Administration, in Jakarta, Monday.
Fadjroel said that the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin government wanted to ensure that development proceeded in all sectors, so fair justice was realized. He stressed that rural areas are a priority. Papua, West Papua, and eastern Indonesia are also a concern.
"Even the President appointed the Vice President as Chair of the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Papua Development," said Fajdroel.
He emphasized that there are many underdeveloped areas that need to be developed so that gaps do not occur.
Equitable development of human resources and infrastructure is very important because economically, Java Island gets around 55 percent of the development cake, and Sumatra gets 29 percent.
"Java and Sumatra have taken about 75-80 percent of the development. The rest is divided by Kalimantan only 8 percent, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua," said Fadjroel.
He emphasized that the Indonesian centric legacy that the President wanted was that there should not be a single island left behind, and not a single citizen was left behind.
"No one left behind. The President said it was not just physical or infrastructure development, but human resource development. The government wants to ensure that development is evenly distributed in all regions," he said. (Antaranews)
