VOI News, Jakarta: Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi expressed optimism about the Naratetama VVIP Airport being able to serve narrow-bodied aircraft starting on August 1, 2024.

The airport was built as a supporting infrastructure for the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara in East Kalimantan.

As reported by Antara News Agency on Saturday (22/6) the minister explained that the first layer of asphalt is being applied to the runway at Naratetama Airport, which is being constructed by the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry.

"We are optimistic that on August 1, 2024, the airport will be able to accommodate narrow-bodied aircraft," minister Sumadi conveyed on Saturday.

According to Sumadi, the airport will have a 3,500-meter-long runway, with a target of 2,200 meters to be completed in July 2024 and be ready by December 2024.

During his visit to Naratetama Airport, Sumadi remarked that the airport can also accommodate wide-bodied aircraft, along with the addition of an asphalt layer that will be carried out in the next stage.

He also pointed out that Naratetama Airport can accommodate large aircraft, such as the Boeing 777-3000ER and Airbus A380 types, with a runway designed to be 3,500 meters long and 45 meters wide.

He noted that the progress in the airport's construction and the provision of other supporting facilities was good and showed significant development.

"When compared to conditions a few weeks ago, we can really see the development, especially the runway and terminal building," Sumadi  mentioned.

The construction of the terminal building is entering the stages of roofing, electrical, plumbing, and column work, as well as the installation of plumbing pipes, steel frames, and walls, including other supporting facilities. (Antara)

VOInews,Jakarta:Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno promoted Indonesia's tourism to residents of the Middle East, Central Europe, and Central America, identified as potential marketing regions.

This was stated by Minister Sandiaga Uno during the Familiarization Trip Program on Friday (15/6) while meeting with travel agents, journalists, content creators, and tourism observers from Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, and Panama.

"These participants have a crucial role in promoting Indonesia to these three potential marketing regions," he conveyed.

Minister SandiagaUno further explained his primary focus was on residents of the three regions, which saw significant contributions to Indonesia's international tourist arrivals last year.

In 2023, the number of Bulgarian tourists visiting Indonesia increased by 33 percent, Central American tourists by 35 percent, and Saudi Arabian tourists by 30 percent, he said.

"We aim to use this momentum to attract more culture-interested tourists," he said.

He further pointed out that his ministry aims to attract more visitors and ensure these travelers are "quality tourists" who spend more nights in Indonesia.

Minister Uno expressed hope that the Familiarization Trip Program would encourage participants to promote Indonesia's tourism upon returning to their countries.

"We hope for continued promotions that will result in more tourists visiting Indonesia, as we have seen a significant increase in visits from those three regions," he stated.

During the activity, SandiagaUno was accompanied by Sukmo Harsono, Indonesian Ambassador to Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Nikaragua, and Iwan Bogananta, Indonesian Ambassador to Bulgaria, Albania, and North Macedonia. (Antara)

VOInews, Jakarta: The Indonesian Military (TNI) confirmed that they had prepared three aircraft for the evacuation of around 1,000 Palestinians injured by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip to Indonesia.

The aircraft on standby include Boeing 737-400/500, C-130J Super Hercules, and Hercules C-130H. This was pointed out by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto  at a meeting with ulemas of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in Jakarta on Friday as quoted by Antara (15/6).

The Indonesian Air Force's Boeing 737-400/500 can carry 41 crew members, 86 passengers, and logistics weighing 10 tons, while the C-130J can seat 51 people and the C-130H can transport 55 people.

The aircraft will transport the wounded Palestinian evacuees to Indonesia for treatment at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) and Jenderal Besar Soedirman National Defense Central Hospital.

These two Jakarta-based hospitals could receive up to 1,000 patients, General Agus said, adding that all injured Palestinian evacuees would be offered the best medical care and post-trauma treatment.

To this end, the TNI has prepared a team of specialists to assist the traumatized evacuees with therapy, he stated.

Moreover, the TNI is also ready to deliver further humanitarian supplies for Gaza, including a hospital ship, as long as a ceasefire has been implemented and the Indonesian military has received a UN mandate, he conveyed. (Antara)

Indonesia's Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto (ANTARA/Agatha Olivia Victoria)

VOINews, Jakarta: Indonesia's Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto said that he welcomed the suggestion of former East Java governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa to send one thousand Gaza evacuees to Islamic boarding schools (pesantrens).

"I will report it to Mr. President," he told journalists on Friday, in response to the former East Java governor's idea of providing the Gaza evacuees with education and treatment at pesantrens in East Java.

Earlier, at the recent IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Subianto said President Joko Widodo had urged him to evacuate around one thousand Palestinians injured by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip to Indonesia.

The Gaza evacuees would then receive medical treatments at hospitals in Indonesia.

Minister Prabowo Subianto pointed out that several public figures from West Java have also expressed their readiness to receive the Gaza evacuees and send them to pesantrens in the province to be educated and treated well there.

Speaking in connection with ways to resolve the armed conflict in Gaza, Subianto said earlier that the Indonesian government remains consistent with its belief that it must be solved through "ceasefire and negotiation."

"Indonesia firmly supports the Palestinian independence, a two-state solution, and all efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire," he explained.

Fresh armed conflict erupted between Palestine and Israel following a surprise attack by Hamas on Israel early in the morning of October 7, 2023.

Prior to the assault by Palestinian liberation fighters in Israel, the Israeli government continued its closure of Gaza crossings.

Palestine's news agency WAFA reported on September 25, 2023, that the Israeli closure of Gaza crossings had worsened the living conditions of Palestinians in Gaza.

According to WAFA, the Palestinians had already suffered from the severe impacts of "more than 17 years of tight Israeli land, sea, and air blockades."

Al Jazeera quoted Hamas, which governs Gaza, as stating that its assault on Israel was "a response to the desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased settler violence."

In response to the unprecedented surprise attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on Hamas and, according to Al Jazeera, pledged that Israeli forces would "turn all Hamas hideouts into rubble."

Since the war began on Oct 7, 2023, the Israeli armed forces have killed at least 36,550 Palestinian civilians and injured some 82,959 others as of June 4, 2024, according to Al Jazeera.

Al Jazeera reported that many of those killed in Gaza are women and children. The Israeli aggression has also triggered a humanitarian catastrophe. (Antara)
