The Indonesian government will always prioritize the settlement of hundreds of agrarian conflicts through the agrarian reform program, which is President Joko Widodo's priority in 2019, and continuing into his second term in office.
Chief expert of the Presidential Staff Office and deputy chief of the Office's Agrarian Conflict Settlement Expediting Team (TPPKA-KSP) Usep Setiawan said in Jakarta on Wednesday that a ministerial meeting had agreed to the creation of cross-ministry and institution agrarian conflict settlement desk, with the Presidential Staff Office as coordinator.
The desk has set itself the target of settling 167 agrarian conflicts this year.
Since 2016, the TPPKA-KSP has received 666 cases of agrarian conflicts involving 1,457,084 hectares of land, with at least 176,132 families being affected. Of the total, 414 cases have supporting data, so they can be easily followed up on.
Based on the analysis made by the TPPKA, 167 of these cases could be settled in the short-term, 92 cases in the medium-term and 154 cases in the long-term.
Also, 253 cases lack supporting data, and cannot be followed up on.
"We are still creating a schedule. The handling and settlement of the conflicts is the agenda, which is inseparable from agrarian reform. The agrarian reform is the president's priority until 2019 and into the next term of office, until 2024," Usep said. (ant)
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will offer foreigners the opportunity to invest in a number of oil and gas blocks.
Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Djoko Siswanto said in Jakarta on Wednesday that foreigners would be allowed to invest, in a bid to encourage the participation of contractors.
"We offered this to many (contractors), we offer them a lot (of work areas), later if we are interested, then we will auction the areas off. If no one is interested, the auction is useless, a waste of time and energy," he said.
During the last "roadshow" event, the government offered the opportunity to invest in seven oil and gas working areas. But Djoko was reluctant to specify the work areas.
He added, there were two or three oil/gas blocks that seemed to attract oil and gas contractors.
According to Djoko, efforts to offer the oil and gas blocks before the auction were responded to positively by foreign businesses.
However, he admitted that the decision to invest in the oil and gas sector involves time and commitment, especially if the business requires head office approval for investment activities.
"Some companies need time to study. So before the auction, we have proactively conduct 'roadshows' to evaluate the responses," he said.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on the private sector to become the main engine of the national economy because the influence of the National Budget on the national economy was considered small, notably only in the range of 20-30 percent.
"Our RAPBN (Draft State Budget) does not significantly affect the economy, only about 20-30 percent. In fact, it is the private sector that has major impact on the economy. Hence, we have to trigger the private sector to move faster," said President Joko Widodo in a special interview with ANTARA at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday.
The Head of State said the government continued to encourage the private sector to be interested in investing capital or money into the real sector.
"So that regulations that provide incentives must continue to be given in order to encourage them to invest, especially in export oriented sectors," he said.
The government also provides incentives for investment in sectors whose orientation is to replace imported goods.
According to him, licensing services must be delivered as fast as possible. Indonesia would not be able to compete with other countries if doing business as usual.
President Jokowi also revealed that in the five years of his future administration, he had no burden.
"The things that we used to see as difficult to carry out, we will do it. For the country, if we are hesitant to decide, we would just do routine things. Just, see after the inauguration," Jokowi said.
He said that in the next five years there would be no burden for him, because after that he could not run again in the future elections.
Meanwhile regarding the conditions envisioned after 2024, Jokowi wanted Indonesia's economic foundations to be strong.
"This means that instead of thinking of how big the economic growth, we will focus on the quality of economic growth and equity," the President said.
According to him, to achieve rapid or high economic growth is easy, for example by making super economic corridors in northern Java because there are already economic and industrial zones supported by ports in the region.
He said the government will focus on economic equality because the country has 17 thousand islands, including Papua, Maluku, and East Nusa Tenggara, among others. (ant)
