President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded that the trade war between the United States (US) and the People's Republic of China (PRC) is not impossible to spread everywhere, and can have an impact on stability and security of the region.

To that end, President Jokowi reminded the need for efforts to strengthen the economic building of ASEAN countries individually and collectively

The statement was conveyed by President Jokowi at the Plenary Session of the 34th ASEAN Summit as quoted by Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Retno Marsudi at a press conference at the Atlete Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand, Saturday (6/22).

"This means that intra-ASEAN trade must be strengthened, trade facilitation becomes more important, and MSMEs are reminded that they must benefit from ASEAN economic integration," said President Jokowi.

The Foreign Minister added, on that occasion, President Jokowi also stated that cooperation with ASEAN partners had become more important. The President reminded the importance of our commitment to complete the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) negotiations among ASEAN countries this year.

In the midst of the current world situation, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President also stated that it was important that ASEAN had a outlook on the Indo Pacific issue.

"This Outlook reflects the centrality and strength of ASEAN in respecting peace, a culture of dialogue, and also strengthening cooperation," the Foreign Minister quoted President Jokowi as saying,

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia expressed his gratitude for the support of ASEAN member countries in jointly developing the ASEAN Indo Pacific Outlook concept, about a year ago when Indonesia began to present this ASEAN Pacific concept. (setkab)

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) pushed for the completion of negotiations on the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) boundary between Indonesia and Viet Nam when meeting with Prime Minister Viet Nam Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the sidelines of the ASEAN 34th Summit in 2019 at Bangkok Athenee Hotel on Saturday (22 / 6).

In the bilateral meeting, the Prime Minister of Viet Nam directly conveyed his congratulations to President Jokowi for the process and results of the General Elections in Indonesia.

During the meeting, the President conveyed that the issue of EEZ always arose during a meeting between Indonesia and Viet Nam. Therefore, the President hopes that these problems can be resolved soon because they have the potential to cause problems.

"The recent incidents between the sea security authorities of the two countries have been one of the impacts. For that, I hope that Your Majesty can instruct the Viet Nam technical team to be able to immediately finalize the EEZ negotiations, "said the President.

In the meeting, President Joko Widodo also expressed his appreciation for Viet Nam's support for the development of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific which will be adopted at this summit.

"The ASEAN Draft Outlook on Indo-Pacific cooperation has been discussed for a long time. With the support of Viet Nam, this concept will be adopted at this summit, "said the President.

The President also congratulated Viet Nam who will become the UN DK member country from 2020-2021. Thus, in 2020, there will be two ASEAN member countries (Indonesia and Viet Nam) who will become non-permanent members of the UN Security Council in 2020.

Indonesia emphasizes the importance of a good security situation for the implementation of voluntary, safe and dignified repatriation.

This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) when meeting the State Counselor of the Republic of Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi on the sidelines of the 34th ASEAN Summit held at Bangkok's Athenee Hotel on Saturday (22/6).

"If the security situation does not improve, it will be difficult for voluntary, safe and dignified repatriation to be carried out," said President Jokowi.

"Indonesia also has a high commitment to continue to contribute to solving the Rakhine State issue," said President Jokowi.

President Jokowi also stressed the importance of immediately following up on recommendations from the Preliminary Needs Assessment (PNA) report. Indonesia is ready to again contribute to the follow-up to the recommendations of the PNA Report.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) along with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha discussed three issues in a bilateral meeting between Indonesia and Thailand at Athenee Hotel, Bangkok, Saturday (6/22).

In the bilateral meeting, the two leaders agreed to increase trade and investment cooperation and eliminate trade barriers.


At the meeting, the two leaders of the country also specifically discussed CPO and rubber. Indonesia, during the meeting, expressed its appreciation to Thailand for its support for Indonesia and Malaysia in combating discrimination against CPO.

Another thing that was also conveyed by the President was that Indonesia also appreciated Thailand's cooperation to jointly increase world rubber prices.

The Head of State also believes that Indonesia and Thailand can build good cooperation, not only for bilateral interests, but also for ASEAN and the world.

"I fully support Thailand's leadership in ASEAN this year," the President said in the release of the  Deputy for Protocol, Press, Media Palace, Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin.
President Jokowi also expressed his appreciation for Thailand's support of the ASEAN Outlook Concept on the Indo Pacific.
The last issue presented by President Jokowi was the development of Rakhine State that Indonesia conveyed the importance of the Preliminary Needs Assessment (PNA) report to be followed up immediately.
In addition, President Jokowi expressed the importance of a better security situation at the Rakhine State so that a voluntary, safe and dignified process of repatriation could be carried out.
