Indonesian Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun expressed his appreciation for the establishment of a tempe factory under the company Seastar Food Co. Ltd. from Indonesia in Shanghai, China last Wednesday (20/1). The company is the first producer of Indonesian tempe in China where the demand is increasing from the local community for this typical Indonesian food.

Ambassador Djauhari stated that  the existence of this tempe company has succeeded in paving the way in promoting Indonesian specialties in the Chinese market through Shanghai. The tempe which is produced in the Songjiang District industrial area is sold on the Chinese market under the brand name "Rusto Tempeh."

So far, the food made from soybeans has been marketed through an online shopping platform, Taobao owned by the giant Alibaba. However, the amount is still very limited due to  being known only by some Indonesian diasporas and local residents who have lived or visited Indonesia.

Ambassador Djauhari further said that the tempe company is not only a manifestation of the love of the Indonesian people in China, but also one of the archipelago culinary diplomacy strategies in China. Therefore, he hopes for support from all Indonesian people in Shanghai, such as from the Indonesian Consulate General, entrepreneurs and Indonesian representative companies in Shanghai, Indonesian students and university students, as well as  diasporas.

Indonesia and Cambodia encourage cooperation to handle negative campaigns against palm oil commodities

Indonesia keeps fighting against negative campaigns of palm oil commodities and its derivatives; one of which is through a representative approach to each accredited country.  Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia, Sudirman Haseng visited the State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, Eang Sophalleth to discuss the issue of oil palm and the economic sustainability of farmers on Friday (15/1).

Besides, Ambassador Sudirman also takes advantages of the meeting to gain support and an active role of Cambodia at the ASEAN-EU Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting which will discuss issues related to vegetable oil, including palm oil at the end of January 2021. He also affirmed that the issues to be discussed at the JWG is very important, particularly for ASEAN, which becomes the largest exporter region of palm oil commodities. Moreover, the issues of palm oil become a systemic negative campaign target done by interested parties.

Meanwhile, State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, Eang Sophalleth pointed out the important issues discussed in relation to encouraging the implementation of SDGs and a sustainable economy, as well as looking at the opportunities and challenges in vegetable oil production. The meeting also discussed cooperation plans at the ecotourism sector as a potential new destination to educate domestic and international students and tourists related to the advantages, uses and benefits of palm oil, as well as providing a broader understanding in giving various perspectives to combat against negative campaigns to palm oil commodities.

Having listened to the conversation, now I am going to introduce somevocabulary andexpressions related to the topic of the day.

In the dialog, there is an expression wow, banyak sekali ya (2x) which means wow, that’s a lot. The word wow is an interjection which is used to express shock, amazement and wonder of something. It is usually followed by adjective or noun to describe shock, amazement and wonder of something.

For example:

Wow, rajin sekali Andi dalam belajar. (2x) which means Wow, how diligent Andi in studying

Wow, cantik sekali adiknya Ayu. (2x) which means Wow, how beautiful Ayu’s sister is!

In addition to the word wow, there are also other words aduh and astaga to show shock, amazement and wonder of something. Like the word wow, the words astaga and aduh are usually followed by adjective or noun too.

For example:

Aduh, baik sekali hati anak kecil itu. (2x) which means Oh, how kind the little kid is.

Astaga, Lia terlihat sangat cantik mengenakan gaun itu. (2x) which means Oh gosh, Lia looks so beautiful in that dress.

From this incident, this beach is known as the Cacalan beach.

The existence of the beautiful Cacalan beach brings a new face to the tourism sector in Banyuwangi. Places in all corners of Cacalan beach are now photo spots for both local and foreign tourists. Especially, this beachside swing spot is well designed to capture moments together. In addition, tourists can see the beautiful panoramic view of the Bali Strait from this Banyuwangi beach. Activities that tourists usually do on Cacalan Beach are swimming, fishing, looking for sea animals, watching the beautiful sunrise panorama, and enjoying culinary delights. For those who like horse riding, they can try this Cacalan beach location. This beach provides horse rental to get around along the beach. There are also canoes or rubber boat rentals to fulfill tourists’ adventure desires. There is no ticket price to enter the Banyuwangi Cacalan Beach, but you have to pay for vehicle parking at an affordable price.

The facilities at Cacalan Beach are quite adequate, such as parking areas, bathrooms, dining areas, wooden swings, shelter umbrellas, and places of worship. Food stalls providing a variety of seafood menus and others can be found around this beach. Enjoying East Java culinary above the Gazebo while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Cacalan Beach will certainly make your vacation even more memorable.
