Primaduta Award for Lebanese Businessman (0)
The Indonesian Embassy in Beirut has acknowledged its continued support for trade cooperation improvement between Indonesia and Lebanon. Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Hajriyanto Y Thohari gave the Primaduta Award to Lebanese businessman and importer, George R Fattouh. The award was given for his service in helping market Indonesian products in Paris from the Middle East. The award was given at a ceremony at the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut, Thursday (11/1) Fatough, is the owner of George R. Fattouh S.A.L, a business that has been importing Indonesian products since the 1980s. It has a range of products, including: palm oil and its derivatives, oil and fats (including cocoa butter substitute, fat spread, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, and lauric confectionery fats), cardboard, stationary, and school equipment. Some Indonesian products are now even available at famous retail networks, such as Spinney’s and Carrefour. In 2022, the value imported by George R. Fattough S.A.L of Indonesian products, was 981.3 million USD. This was a 149.5 million USD increase when compared to 2021. Fattouh said Indonesian products are known for their quality and are in high demand in Lebanese markets. However, he said, the challenge now is increasing freight costs due to security challenges in the region.

Listeners, a number of delicious dishes were served to the guests of Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman Yogyakarta, at the wedding reception of the youngest son of K.G.P.A.A. Paku Alam X, namely B.P.H. Kusumo Kuntonugroho with Laily Annisa Kusumastuti which was held on January 10, 2024.Head of the Customs and Accommodation Division, Dhaup Ageng Pura Pakualaman, KRT Radyo Wisroyo said that the menu served to guests was quite varied. These menus are typical menus prepared by Pakualaman Pura, Indonesian menus and western food menus were also available. All invited guests including VIP and VVIP guests got the same menu. The first menu served to welcome guests, namely two types of welcome drink, namely lime lemongrass and ginger drink with lime. The welcome drink was given when guests sat down and watched the Bedhaya Sidamukti and Bedhaya Kakung Indrawidagda dance performances. Next, they gotsnacks for appetizer such as croquettes and other light snacks. There is a snack that is considered quite special and rare called Garulina. Garulina was the opening snack at the Pahargyan Dhaup Ageng Pakualaman lunch on the first day. Garulina has been around since the era before Indonesian independence. Garulina is actually not a typical Central Javanese food. It looks like the Lapis Legit layered cake, but there is something different, because there is a special layer like vla which is made from fresh milk, eggs and sugar. To get this sweet snack, Pakulaman Temple has to place a special order from the third generation of makers who have been pioneering since the 1950s. In Jogja, Garulina is very difficult to find and is considered rare because it is not sold every day.

Indonesian Ambassador leads ceremony at the tomb of National Hero Tuanku Tambusai in Malaysia

Indonesia has just celebrated the Indonesian National Heroes Day on November 10th, and it was also commemorated in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, on the same day. A ceremonial tribute was held at the Indonesian National Hero Cemetery, honoring Tuanku Tambusai in Kampung Rasah, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia, Hermono, led the ceremony, which included a flower scattering tribute. The solemn event began at 9 AM Malaysian time (or 8 AM Western Indonesia Time), participated by over 300 attendees, including representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, the Consulate General of the Republic Indonesia, Negeri Sembilan officials, West Sumatra Regional Government, members of the Indonesian community, the family of Tuanku Tambusai, and the Riau Malay Customary Law.
According to ANTARA, Ambassador Hermono noted that this year’s commemoration was more attended than previous years, with significant representation from Malay figures, West Sumatra and Negeri Sembilan officials. The condition of the cemetery and its surroundings was notably improved by the support of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs and the Negeri Sembilan Government.
Hermono hoped that Tuanku Tambusai’s Cemetery would one day become a religious pilgrimage site, attracting visitors from both Malaysia and Indonesia and benefiting the local community.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Consul General in Johor Bahru, Sigit S. Widiyanto, stated that this second Heroes Day ceremony at Tuanku Tambusai’s tomb was interesting, because it’s the only Indonesian hero’s tomb located outside the country. Sigit hoped that these activities can continue in the future, and further strengthen the people of the two nations. Tuanku Tambusai is recognized not only as a hero in fighting colonial forces during the Padri War in Indonesia but also as an Islamic missionary in Malaysia.

The Indonesian Embassy promotes literacy on Indonesia among Ethiopian youth

The Indonesian Embassy in Addis Ababa is promoting literacy about Indonesia among the Ethiopian public through an event called "Indonesia from an Ethiopian Perspective.”
According to the Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Al Busyra Basnur, in a statement to ANTARA news agency, the event aims to enhance awareness about Indonesia, especially among Ethiopian youth. The event was held on November 7th and in collaboration with St. D. Comboni Secondary School in Hawassa, located 300 km south from Addis Ababa. 200 students and 15 teachers from the school participated in this event.
The event featured speaker, Dubale Gebeyehu, a well-known lecturer at Hawassa University and a frequent speaker on Indonesia in various Ethiopian forums. Dubale shared insights about Indonesia, including the developments he observed and experienced during his time in Indonesia, particularly in education, economy, and tourism, as well as the opportunities for bilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and Indonesia.
He noted that Ethiopia could learn from Indonesia in education, interethnic harmony, religious tolerance, and economic development. Dubale further expressed admiration for Indonesia’s tourism infrastructure, Ethiopia has many beautiful tourist attractions, but they are not as developed as Indonesia.
Ambassador Al Busyra noted that the introduction to Indonesia received a warm response from the students. As the presentation ended, a quiz session was held on Indonesia with dozens of books written by Ambassador Al Busyra Basnur as prizes.
In the past five years, the Indonesian Embassy in Addis Ababa has organized numerous activities involving youth from both countries, including virtual meetings and discussions to connect Ethiopian and Indonesian students.

President Prabowo's special edition stamps launched in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Post Agency Ukrposhta has launched a special edition stamp featuring a photo of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
The stamps with the photo of Indonesia's 8th President were uploaded by the Indonesian Embassy in Kiev on its Instagram account @indonesiainkyiv, monitored in Jakarta on 11 November.
According to a press release received from the Indonesian Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine, the launch was initiated by the NGO The Ukrainian Initiative, chaired by Indonesianist Yurii Kosenko.
Yurii Kosenko said that the printing of the special edition stamps was related to the inauguration of Indonesia's 8th President.
Indonesian Ambassador to Ukraine Arief Basalamah received the stamps in person at Ukrposhta's office in Nizhyn City, accompanied by Yurii Kosenko, on October.
Ambassador Arief expressed his appreciation to Ukrposhta and the Ukrainian Initiative for printing the stamps, which he said showed support for Indonesia's new leader.
He said that Indonesia is ready to cooperate with Ukraine in supporting the advancement of bilateral relations.
Although only a limited print run, these stamps can officially be used for postal deliveries throughout Ukraine.
Ukrposhta is Ukraine's official national postal agency, providing postal, logistics, financial and trade services to individuals and businesses.

Innovation of energy source from waste bacteria by ITS students

The high demand for household electricity requires innovation of renewable energy sources as a substitute for fossil fuels which are increasingly depleted. Starting from this problem, a team of students from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya, East Java, created an environmentally friendly energy source from oil sludge waste bacteria. Head of the ITS Gasoileum Team Ramadhita Putra Purnomo explained that oil sludge is one of the wastes produced from the processing and storage of crude oil. If this waste is disposed of, special stages are required so that the waste does not pollute the environment. Rama and his team studied oil sludge waste and found the presence of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa bacteria as a microbial fuel cell (MFC) which has the potential to produce electrical energy from electrons resulting from the decomposition of nutrient glucose by bacteria.
To produce electricity, the bacteria need to be mixed with household waste, such as vegetables or fruits. The household waste is cut into small pieces and mixed with hydrochloric acid (HCl). The goal is to break down the nutrient glucose molecules into smaller pieces. Next, the mixture is put into a 1,000 milliliter tube that has been fitted with a multimeter anode and cathode. The mixture is arranged to form three layers of parts with a ratio of 1:3. From this mixture, a bio-electrochemical system will then occur that converts household waste glucose into electrons. These electrons then produce voltage and electric current.
To obtain maximum electrical potential, it takes up to seven days. In the seventh time span, the electrical energy produced by these bacteria reached 21 watts or equivalent to the power to light a flashlight. The results of this research have led the team to become the first winner in the 2024 Forum Improvement & Innovation Award (IIA) event recently.

A unique art festival titled Art Love U will be held from 1 to 12 November 2024 at the Jakarta Design Center. The festival will explore the language of love by 43 current artists who agree to dissect the meaning of love in a broader perspective, namely the spirit of youth and passion for art. President Director of Jakarta Design Centre, Nurul Syahri explained the new vision and mission of the JDC Building with the tagline The Premium Hub of Art, Design Community and Commerce. This activity is carried out to support the development of art, culture and creativity that boasts Indonesian tourism, one of which is through the Art Love U activity.
Jakarta Design Centre will continue to create creative spaces with various art events. Artistic Director of the Art Love U Festival, Rohadi, said that the Art Love U Festival is an effort to respond to the development of the world of education and industry, which now tends to technology and culture. Rohadi added that the Festival provides a service and design space that features JDC as a hub, including an art performance with a tagline change. The series of events are Artist Talk, Workshop, and Creative Sharing to appreciation of art education such as sketching.
The artists involved included Joko Avianto, Dolorosa Sinaga, Kun Tanubrata, Bintang Tanatimur, Bill Mohdor, Jason Ranti. The event was also enlivened by an art essay writing class session by curator and art critic Bambang Asrini. This kind of event should be held as an art education event for the younger generation.

Indonesian Embassy in Beijing introduces batik philosophy at the ‘ASEAN Ladies Circle’ event

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia Beijing/ China/ together with Dharma Wanita Persatuan (wives of the Embassy’s civil servants) in Beijing, introduced the value and philosophy of batik in the ASEAN Ladies Circle (ALC).
The ALC, which was held at the Ambassador's House in the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing on Monday (28/10), took the theme A Journey into Indonesia's Batik Philosophy. The event was attended by the wives of ambassadors and diplomats as well as representatives of female diplomats from ASEAN member countries serving in Beijing as well as invited guests from other countries.
Chairwoman of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, Sih Elsiwi Handayani Oratmangun, who is also the wife of Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia Djauhari Oratmangun, said in a written statement in Beijing on Tuesday (29/10) that batik is not just a cloth, but also a work of art that reflects the history, values and philosophy of the Indonesian nation.
Sih Elsiwi said ASEAN Ladies Circle this time aims to introduce and deepen understanding of Indonesian batik as one of the world's cultural heritages that has been recognised by UNESCO.
Sih Elsiwi explained guests were invited to understand more deeply the philosophical meanings contained in various batik motifs such as the ‘Kawung’ motif which symbolises purity ‘Mega Mendung’ motif which teaches calmness to the ‘Parang’ motif which symbolises struggle and courage.
The event also showed a video about the process of batik making which showed the beauty and complexity of written batik techniques using traditional tools such as canting.
In addition there was also a batik fashion show by members of the Beijing Indonesia Group, the Indonesian community in Beijing. The models wore a variety of typical Indonesian batik motifs from the ‘Buketan’ motif which symbolises love to the ‘Garuda’ motif which symbolises strength and courage. Furthermore, there were still Indonesian children in Beijing who performed angklung, a traditional Indonesian musical instrument made of bamboo, and ‘Poco-Poco’ dance from Maluku to add to the excitement of the event.
According to Sih Elsiwi, ASEAN Ladies Circle is a place to strengthen relations between ASEAN countries through culture. Invited guests from the embassies of ASEAN countries and also the wives of ambassadors get first-hand experience of Indonesian culture as well as the opportunity to share their respective cultures.
The activity was closed with a banquet of Indonesian specialities including lumpia, dadar gulung, pecel, Medan laksa, bubur sumsum, cara bikang, lapis sago and wedang jahe prepared by the Indonesian Embassy team in Beijing and the Roemah Indonesia Heritage Restaurant in Beijing.
Sih Elsiwi said that the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing and DWP will continue to promote the diversity of Indonesian culture as a promotion to Friends of Indonesia.
She hopes events like ALC will trigger the interest of the Chinese public and from other countries to explore Indonesian culture and culinary and then visit Indonesia to get first-hand experience.

One of the music festivals in Jakarta that should not be missed is the Everblast Festival 2024. Targeting millennials, the Everblast Festival is a nostalgic music festival from the 2000s that is held annually. Last year, this festival was attended by thousands of people who wanted to see the Canadian band Simple Plan and the Alternative Rock bands from the United States, Hoobastank and The Rasmus. This festival presents international and local bands that were popular in the 2000s.
Everblast Festival officially announces Sleeping With Sirens as the festival's lineup. In addition to being seen on the Everblast Festival poster, this was also confirmed through the band’s official website, sirensmusic.co, which listed Jakarta as part of their tour. Not only Sleeping With Sirens, but a number of big international bands also took part in the lineup, such as Two Door Cinema Club, 311, and Depapepe.

Welcome back to the special weekend edition of Miscellany! Indonesian students from the Faculty of Dentistry, Syiah Kuala University (USK), Aceh province, won a gold medal and a special award at the Inovas International Invention Show and Competition in Zagreb, Croatia, in October 2024. The innovative team known as BISCATUR created a biscuit product from eggshells, aiming to prevent stunting and osteoporosis. This extraordinary work outperformed more than 4,000 participants from various countries.
The BISCATUR team consists of students from the Faculty of Dentistry—Galuh Satwika Paramita, Deffan Dericco, Mohd. Fakhriza Naufal, and Diva Maulana—and one student from the Faculty of Economics, Muhammad Raiyan Fajri. They brought home not only a gold medal but also special awards from Canada and Romania. Their innovation focuses on utilizing eggshells, usually considered waste, into health-beneficial products. The team was assisted by the Vice Dean of Student Affairs of the Faculty of Dentistry, drg. Sri Rezeki SpPM.
For this success, the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Cut Soraya, expressed her gratitude, stating that this achievement will encourage creativity among other students at USK to innovate at the international level. The INOVA 2024 event featured 213 research teams from 25 countries, highlighting Indonesian students' potential to contribute to science and innovation, crucial for welcoming Golden Indonesia 2045. Hopefully, the success of the BISCATUR team will inspire other young generations to excel.

Traffic jams are a prolonged problem in the world's big cities, including in Surabaya, Indonesia. Therefore, a team of students from Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya created an AI-for-integrated program called Surabaya Integrated Smart Road Infrastructure (SISRI) as a solution for traffic jams in Surabaya.
Head of ITS Go Gangster Team, Muhammad Afif, explained that Smart Transport and Smart Governance are two important pillars in the development of smart cities. The team created an adaptive traffic light based on traffic density. The app has five top features that can watch people's mobility patterns. One of the main features is SI-Eye, an AI-based camera sensor that can detect type, speed, and flow of traffic. The data collected by the sensor is sent to SI-Traffic that will then adaptively change the traffic light color. This can prevent congestion due to the duration of traffic lights. This innovation also has SI-Robu with an on-board unit. This is an instrument installed on vehicles and can send signals to traffic lights to make it turn green. This device is mainly installed on priority vehicles such as buses, ambulances, and fire trucks.
There are also additional features like SI-Air that monitor air quality on a real-time basis. This service is integrated with SI-Maps, so that SISRI can provide route recommendations with good air quality. Besides, SI-Maps also can show public transport position and route. With their innovation, the team won 1st place in the Smart City category in the Gemastik XIV Semarang State University (UNNES), recently.
